Dominant and alternative encoding of television series Žena za pultem

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá dominantním a alternativním zakódováním televizního seriálu z období normalizace Žena za pultem. Normalizační televizní seriály vznikaly pod vlivem vládnoucí moci a byly charakteristické tím, že prostřednictvím každodenních situací měly předávat divákům žádoucí systém norem, hodnot a postojů. V návaznosti na teorie zabývající se procesem kódování a dekódování mediálního textu a charakteristikou uzavřených a otevřených textů předpokládáme, že tyto seriály bylo možné dekódovat také alternativním způsobem. V této práci jsou analyzovány metodou diskurzivní analýzy podle Jamese Paula Geeho vybrané zápletky tohoto seriálu s cílem popsat jednotlivé motivy, které podporovaly tehdejší status quo (dominantní zakódování) oproti motivům, které ho zpochybňovaly nebo kritizovaly (alternativní zakódování).

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with dominant and alternative encoding of television series from the period of normalization Žena za pultem. Normalization television series were produced under control of the sovereign power and they were transferring through everyday situations specific set of norms, values and attitudes. In relation to the theories, that describe the process of encoding and decoding of media texts and the characteristics of closed and open texts, we suppose that it was possible to decode this series in alternative way. In this thesis, we analyze selected set of plots of this TV series with the objective to describe the motifs that were supporting the status quo of the period (dominant encoding) and the motifs that could question it or criticize it (alternative encoding).
