A semiotic analysis of SPOZ's and ČSSD's TV ads in the 2013 general elections

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se věnuje televizním spotům politických stran ČSSD a SPOZ před volbami do Poslanecké sněmovny v roce 2013. Spoty jsou analyzovány pomocí sémiotické analýzy vycházející z teorie sémiotiky, jejíž základní prvky jsou představeny v teoretické části. Analýza, čerpající zejména z teoretických základů práce Hartleyho a Fiskeho, zachycuje významy na třech stupních označování. V práci jsou kladeny dvě výzkumné otázky, a sice „Jaké sdělení (message) adresují strany ve spotech voličům?“ a „Jaké persvazivní techniky jsou ve spotech využity?“ Identifikace persvazivních technik se opírá především o katalog přesvědčovacích prostředků Franka Bakera.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the television spots of political parties CSSD and SPOZ before the election to the Chamber of Deputies in 2013. The spots are analyzed using semiotic analysis based on the semiotic theory whose basic elements are introduced in the theoretical part. The analysis, drawing especially from the theoretical basis of Hartley and Fiske’s work, takes up the meanings in three orders of signification. There are two research questions posed, and these are „What messages do the parties address to voters?“ and „Which techniques of persuasion are being used?“. Identification of persuasive techniques draws especially from Frank Baker’s catalogue.
