Analysis and design of Self-service business intelligence solution for a retail company

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na analýzu a návrh Self-service business intelligence (SSBI) řešení pro maloobchodní společnost, která se zabývá prodejem potravin, drogerie a smíšeného zboží. Cílem mé práce je zanalyzovat vlastnosti podniku a to jak z vnitřního, tak z vnějšího pohledu, na jejichž základě se navrhne pilotní SSBI řešení v programu Power Pivot. Toto řešení bude vyhovovat analyzovaným potřebám podniku, které jsou reálné a majitelem požadované. Práce bude členěna do dvou částí, přičemž důraz bude kladen na praktickou část, které bude věnována většina této práce. Začátek práce představuje úvod do BI a poté specificky do problematiky SSBI, kde se čtenář seznámí se základními pojmy z této dané oblasti. Následující dílčí část je tvořena obecnou charakteristikou společnosti a analýzou aktuálního stavu jejího informačního systému. Díky těmto zjištěným poznatkům je následně vypracován návrh SSBI aplikace sloužící jako pomocný nástroj pro vedoucí i zaměstnance společnosti. Aplikace, která je určena ke sledování stavu hospodaření společnosti, jim pomůže s rozhodováním v důležitých záležitostech nebo při rozhodování o změnách, které jsou potřebné pro fungování jejich malé rodinné společnosti a pro dosažení lepšího hospodářského výsledku.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the analysis and design of Self-service business intelligence solution for a selected retail company, which sells groceries, toiletries and miscellaneous goods. The goal of this thesis is to analyze the business characteristics of the company, from both the internal as well as the external points of view, based on which a prototypical SSBI design in program Power Pivot will be conducted. This solution should fit the analyzed needs of the chosen business unit, which are real and required by the company owner. The thesis is divided into two main parts, theoretical and practical, from which an emphasis will be put on the practical one. The beginning of the thesis provides the introduction to the topic BI and particularly SSBI, where the reader can gain an overall understanding of their basic concepts. The following sub-part deals with the general characteristics of the chosen company and hereafter emphasizes on the current state of its information system. Thanks to these examined findings, a prototypical design of the SSBI application will be carried out, which serves as an auxiliary tool for the company’s manager as well as its employees. The application being designed to monitor the economic state of the company can help its staff with better decision-making in important matters and changes, which can be necessary for the functioning of their small family retail company as well as for obtaining better economic results.
