The social integration of Portuguese emigrants in France during the Salazar dictatorship

Abstract:

This work deals with the strong migration flow of the Portuguese population to France during the Salazar dictatorship, particularly in the sixties and seventies of the twentieth century. It aims to find out what the main reasons for this massive migration were, especially in connection with the historical context, how their departure was perceived by the regime in Portugal, how these emigrants were received in France and what were the biggest problems they were facing in the new country. The work also includes the interviews with witnesses of this event, who decided to emigrate themselves.

Abstract:

Tato práce se věnuje silnému migračnímu proudu portugalského obyvatelstva do Francie během Salazarovy diktatury, zejména pak v šedesátých a sedmdesátých letech dvacátého století. Má za úkol zjistit, jaké byly hlavní důvody tohoto masivního odchodu ze země, především v souvislosti s historickým kontextem, a jak jejich odchod vnímal režim v Portugalsku. Dále pak, jak byli tito emigranti ve Francii přijímáni a jaké byly největší problémy, se kterými se v nové zemi setkávali. Součástí práce jsou také rozhovory s pamětníky této události, kteří se sami emigrovat rozhodli.
