Hong Kong and China relations with a focus on current riots and reflection on them among Czech and Slovak sinology students

Abstract:

There are still continuing (2020) riots in Hong Kong, approximately 2 000 000 protesters have joined these protests which makes it the biggest participation in Hong Kong's history. This bachelor's thesis deals with the relationship between China and Hong Kong, its issues and the course of its formation across the centuries to its current form. Historic background tracks its main milestones, starting with the period when Hong Kong was under the colonial British rule until the foundation of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region working under the „one country, two systems“. Chronologic sequence ends in the year 2020, where the ongoing economic and political changes are being closely monitored by the whole world. The aim of this work is to describe these changes, taking place since March 2019, and to map this relationship. Furthermore, to answer the research question of reflection on these events among Czech and Slovak students in the field of sinology, attendees of four selected universities. Goal of the research part of this thesis is to examine reflection on the Hong Kong protests among future expert in the field of sinology and what differences are being shown when the answers of the examined group are looked upon based on variable criteria.

Abstract:

V Hongkongu aktuálne (2020) pretrvávajú nepokoje, na ktorých sa zúčastnilo okolo 2 000 000 protestujúcich, zatiaľ najviac v histórií Hongkongu. Táto bakalárska práca sa zaoberá problematikou vzťahu medzi Čínou a Hongkongom, priebehom jeho formovania sa naprieč stáročiami až do súčasnej podoby. V historickom úvode sú uvedené jeho hlavné míľniky, od obdobia, kedy bol Hongkong pod britskou koloniálnou správou až po založenie Osobitnej administratívnej oblasti Hongkong fungujúcim pod systémom „jedna krajina, dva systémy“. Chronologický sled udalostí vyúsťuje v roku 2020, kedy prebiehajúce ekonomické a politické zmeny pozorne sleduje celý svet. Cieľom tejto práce je tieto zmeny, konajúce sa od marca 2019, popísať a zmapovať tento vzťah. Zároveň si práca kladie za cieľ zodpovedať na výskumnú otázku reflexie na tieto udalosti medzi českými a slovenskými študentmi odboru sinológie navštevujúcich štyri vybrané univerzity. Výskumná časť zisťuje, či je na hongkonské protesty medzi budúcimi odborníkmi na poli sinológie nahliadané so záujmom a aké rozdiely sa preukazujú, keď sú odpovede skúmanej skupiny sledované na základe viacerých kritérií.
