The impact of sanctions of European Union on the democratization of regime in Burma

Abstract:

The goal of the thesis is to describe and evaluate the influence of the European Union’s sanctions on the process of democratization in Burma. A core of this thesis is analysis of EU’s sanctions and its reflexion on shift from authoritarian regime led by military junta to slow advocating of democratical values. The shift is interpreted in the theoretical framework of democracy and democratization. In the last part, the thesis examines all disturbing factors in consolidation of democratization process, for example a powerful support from China and Russia backing up the authoritarian regime, economical cooperation with ASEAN organization, rich natural resources and some other contributions.

Abstract:

Cieľom bakalárskej práce je popísať a vyhodnotiť vplyv sankcií Európskej Únie na demokratizáciu režimu v Barme. Jadro práce bude tvoriť analýza týchto sankcií a ich reflexia na posune od autoritatívneho režimu vedeného vojenskou juntou k pomalému presadzovaniu demokratických hodnôt v republike. Tento posun bude interpretovaný na pozadí teórie demokracie a demokratizácie. Posledná časť práce skúma rušivé prvky v konsolidácií demokratického procesu, ktoré pôsobia na autoritatívny režim, napr. podporu Číny a Ruska, ekonomickú spoluprácu s organizáciou ASEAN, veľké prírodné bohatstvo a iné faktory.
