Abstract:

Disertační práce se zabývá meziskupinovými postoji a kontaktem mezi příslušníky dvou národů v pohraničním regionu. Integruje teoretická východiska psychologie meziskupinových vztahů, teorie meziskupinového kontaktu, psychologie osobnosti a teorie sociálních reprezentací. Výzkumný soubor tvořili středoškolští studenti z pohraničí České republiky (n = 135) a Rakouska (n = 125). Zkušenosti s příslušníky druhého národa popsali ve volných výpovědích. Charakteristiky vlastního a sousedního národa a sebe samých posuzovali na škálách rysových deskriptorů pětifaktorového modelu osobnosti. Ve čtyřech studiích jsme zkoumali povahu kontaktu mezi členy dvou národů, národní stereotypy, vliv podmínek meziskupinového kontaktu na posuzování druhého národa a míru vymezení se vůči vlastní a nečlenské skupině. Zjistili jsme, že podmínky meziskupinového kontaktu se na obou stranách hranice liší. Rovněž asociace podmínek kontaktu s hodnocením druhého národa byly specifické pro českou a rakouskou část. Obě skupiny v rámci obecné kategorie druhého národa vydělovaly nezávislé podskupiny. Pozitivní zkušenosti s podskupinami (přátelé) nebyly zobecňovány na úroveň druhého národa jako celku, což příspívá k udržování předsudků vůči druhému národu. Respondenti se vymezují vůči vlastní i nečlenské skupině, i když na úrovni sebeposouzení se obě části souboru shodují. Respondenti z obou zemí se lišili v posuzování auto- a heterostereotypu typického Čecha a Rakušana. Percepce kulturně zakotvených stereotypů se liší v závislosti na skupinové příslušnosti. Míra přívětivosti přisuzovaná druhému národu na škálách rysových deskriptorů souvisela s vlastní přívětivostí a s pozitivním a negativním hodnocením druhého národa ve volných výpovědích.

Abstract:

The dissertation deals with intergroup attitudes and contact between members of two nations in border region. It combines theoretical background from psychology of intergroup relations, intergroup contact theory, personality psychology and social representations theory. The sample comprised high-school students from the border region of the Czech Republic (n = 135) and Austria (n = 125). Participants described their experience with outgroup members in open statements. Further, they rated a typical member of their own and neighboring nation as well as themselves on scales of personality trait descriptors. In four studies, we focuses on nature of intergroup contact between the two nations, perception of national stereotypes, level of perceived differentiation from one’s ingroup and outgroup as well as influence of contact conditions on ratings of neighboring nation. We found different contact conditions at both sides of the border. The associations between intergroup contact conditions and attitudes towards the other nation were also country-specific. Participants from both groups created subtypes within the general category of the other nation. Positive experience with subtypes (friends) did not generalize to the other nation as a whole, which maintains prejudice towards the outgroup. Participants differentiated themselves from their perception of a typical ingroup as well as outgroup member. Ratings of own personality traits converged across the two groups. On the other hand, stereotypical ratings of a typical Czech and a typical Austrian differed. Rating of culturally anchored stereotypes depends on perceivers’ group membership. Furthermore, we found the level of agreeableness attributed to the other nation on trait descriptors scales to be predicted by ratings of own agreeableness and positive as well as negative evaluation of the other nation mentioned in opened statements.
