Hydraulic Installations and Water Management in Late Chalcolithic / Early Bronze Age NW-Arabia: A Proposal for Further Research

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá vodním hospodářstvím a hydraulickými strukturami z období přelomu pozdního chalkolitu a rané doby bronzové na Předním východě (konkrétně v oblasti SZ Arabského poloostrova). Cílem práce je přezkoumat a vyhodnotit dostupná data z vybraných lokalit v Jordánsku a Saudské Arábie (Qulban Beni Murra, Rasif, Wadi as-Sahab al-Asmar a al-Abyad, Tall Hujayrat al-Ghuzlan a Jawa), které budou sloužit jako podklad pro chystanou srovnávací studii. Hlavním záměrem tedy je (a) kriticky zhodnotit dostupná data pro následné srovnání, a (b) podat návrh na zlepšení současné situace pro další výzkum vodních objektů. Aby všechny argumenty a návrhy byly dostatečně jasné, jsou podloženy detailním popisem vodního managementu zkoumaných lokalit a obsáhlou tabulkou zahrnující všechna dostupná data.

Abstract:

The topic of the thesis is the water management and hydraulic installations of Late Chalcolithic / Early Bronze Age NW-Arabia. For three representative zones in Jordan and Saudi Arabia relevant data are drawn together and scrutinized in the thesis to serve as the basis for a future comparatist study (Qulban Beni Murra, Rasif, Wadi as-Sahab al-Asmar and al-Abyad, Tall Hujayrat al-Ghuzlan and Jawa). Hence the investigation focuses on (a) critically evaluating the suitability of the available data of the study area for the envisaged comparison purpose and (b) suggesting details for further research on water installations. To make all arguments and suggestions transparent, a detailed description of the water management in the study area, and a broad table containing all possible information about the hydraulic structures complete the thesis.
