Morfology of male gonopods in symbiotic shrimps of the family Palaemonidae (Crustacea: Decapoda)

Abstract:

Tato práce se věnuje morfologické variabilitě gonopodů (1. a 2. pleopodů) u samců symbioticky žijících krevet čeledi Palaemonidae. Hlavní část je věnována literární rešerši zahrnující systematické zařazení, rozšíření a ekologii krevet této čeledi; převážně se zabývá morfologií a funkcí gonopodů a rozmnožováním pravých krevet infrařádu Caridea, včetně čeledi Palaemonidae. Práce obsahuje originální kresby 1. a 2. samčích pleopodů 3 druhů krevet čeledi Palaemonidae - Brachycarpus biunguiculatus, Periclimenes scriptus a Stegopontonia commensalis. V experimentální části je srovnávána morfologie samčích gonopodů u 113 rodů krevet čeledi Palaemonidae. Endopodit 1. samčího pleopodu je u této skupiny krevet většinou dobře vyvinutý, protáhlý, bez appendix interna, bez cincinnuli a s redukovanými štětinami. Appendix masculina na endopoditu 2. samčího pleopodu je u naprosté většiny těchto krevet dobře vyvinutý, s početnými štětinami. Celková redukce endopoditu 1. samčího pleopodu, ale především redukce appendix masculina na 2. samčím pleopodu je charakteristická pro endosymbioticky žijící rody.

Abstract:

This thesis is devoted to morphological variability of male gonopods (1st and 2nd pleopods) of symbiotic shrimps of the family Palaemonidae. Main part involves literary review including systematics, distribution and ecology of shrimps of this family; it largely concerns morfology and function of gonopods, and reproduction of the shrimps of the infraorder Caridea, including the family Palaemonidae. Thesis contains original drawings of 1st and 2nd male pleopods of 3 species of the family Palaemonidae - Brachycarpus biunguiculatus, Periclimenes scriptus and Stegopontonia commensalis. Morphology of male gonopods is compared within 113 genera of the family Palaemonidae in the experimental part. Endopod of the 1st pleopod is usually well developed, elongated, without appendix interna, without cincinnuli, and with reduced setae. Appendix masculina on the 2nd male pleopod is well developed, with numerous setae, in the majority of these shrimps. Total reduction of endopod of the 1st male pleopod, but especially reduction of appendix masculina on the 2nd male pleopod, are characteristic for the genera of endosymbiotic shrimps.
