Allotments in Brno as communities?

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá brněnskými zahrádkářskými osadami z pohledu heterodoxních ekonomických iniciativ. U vybraných zahrádkářských osad resp. spolků (v Brně a v Modřicích) zkoumá jejich komunitní charakter, zejména způsob, jakým se členové podílejí na řízení osad a míru jejich sociálních vazeb. Autorka na základě vlastního pozorování a polo-strukturovaných rozhovorů se zástupci osad ČZS/zahrádkářských spolků v Brně a okolí popsala jejich formální organizační strukturu a pokusila se zjistit míru demokratického rozhodování v uvedených osadách. Dále zjišťovala, do jaké míry se zahrádkáři scházejí, pořádají společné akce a směňují navzájem své plodiny. Z výsledků je patrné, že míra autentického demokratického řízení i intenzita sociálních vazeb se mezi jednotlivými zahrádkářskými organizacemi výrazně liší. V závěru práce nicméně dospívá k názoru, že zkoumané zahrádkářské osady lze označit za heterodoxní ekonomické iniciativy.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the topic of Brno allotments from the perspective of heterodox economic initiatives. Selected allotments (both members of the Czech gardening union and independent entities) are studied in order to discern their community character. It focuses mainly on the way in which their members participate in decision-making and the extent of their social ties. The author based on her own observation and semi-structered interviews with representatives of the allotments desribes their formal organizational structure and tries to find the extent of democratic decision-making in the studied allotments. She also focuses on the extent to which the gardeners get together, organize events and trade their crops. The results show that the extent of authentic democratic governance and the intensity of social ties vary in each allotment. In the end, however, she comes to the conclusion that studied allotments can be desribed as heterodox economic initiatives.
