Combination of aerial photogrammetry and terrestrial laser scanning for hydrological mapping

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce si klade za cíl ověřit funkčnost integrace pozemního laserového skenování a bezpilotního snímkování pro účely hydrologického mapování. V úvodních kapitolách se práce věnuje přehledu dosavadních výzkumů v této oblasti a legislativnímu rámci týkajícímu se provozu bezpilotních prostředků. V teoretické části je detailně rozebrána základní funkčnost použitých technologií, včetně přehledu softwarů určených pro zpracování získaných dat. V rámci praktické části byl opakovaně mapován vybraný úsek řeky Svratky a Maršovského potoka. V práci jsou dále navrženy a detailně popsány procesy mapování včetně příprav, zpracování dat, vytvoření ortofot a digitálních modelů povrchu. Získaná data jsou podrobená analýze za účelem identifikace terénních změn. Výsledky práce naznačují, že propojení dat získaných bezpilotními prostředky a pozemními laserovými skenery umožňuje vytváření detailních výstupů, zejména mračen bodů. Avšak efektivita této kombinace pro následnou analýzu může být omezena, zejména vzhledem k náročnosti analýzy velmi detailních mračen bodů. V závěrečných kapitolách jsou diskutovány možnosti optimalizace procesu a zvyšování kvality výsledků. Navzdory určitým technickým omezením potvrzují výsledky této práce možnost propojení použitých technologií pro hydrologická mapování.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis aims to verify the functionality of terrestrial laser scanning and unmanned aerial imagery integration for hydrological mapping purposes. In the introductory chapters, the thesis reviews the existing research in this field and the legislative framework concerning the operation of unmanned aerial vehicles. In the theoretical part, the basic functionality of the technologies used is discussed in detail, including an overview of the software used for the acquired data processing. In the practical part, a selected section of the Svratka River and the brook Maršovský Potok was repeatedly mapped. The mapping processes, including the preparation of the mapping, data processing, creation of orthophotos and digital surface models are proposed and described in detail. The collected data are then analysed to identify terrain changes. The results of the thesis suggest that combining data acquired by unmanned aerial vehicles and terrestrial laser scanners allows the production of detailed outputs, particularly point clouds. However, the effectiveness of such a combination for the subsequent analysis may be limited, especially given the difficulty of analysing very detailed point clouds. The final chapters discuss ways to optimise the process and improve the quality of the results. Despite some technical limitations, the results of the mapping confirm the possibility of combining the technologies used for hydrological mapping.
