Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá tématem turismu a cestování ve vztahu k environmentálně příznivému životnímu stylu v kontextu reflexivní modernity. Kvalitativní výzkum založený na rozhovorech s mladými „zelenými“ spotřebiteli byl proveden za účelem prozkoumání jejich vztahu k turismu a cestování a zejména způsobu, jakým konstruují význam turismu a cestování v rámci svého environmentálně příznivého životního stylu a své „zelené“ identity. Jedním z východisek výzkumu byl předpoklad, že cestování do zahraničí bude vnímáno do značné míry v konfliktu s environmentálně příznivým způsobem života, a bude proto doprovázeno rozpornými, ambivalentními pocity. Přestože se tento předpoklad částečně potvrdil, výzkum ukázal, že způsob, jakým mladí zelení spotřebitelé vnímají a konstruují význam cestování v rámci svého životního stylu, nelze vysvětlit jednoduše na základě instrumentální racionality. I přes individuální odlišnosti se v rozhovorech objevovala převládající tendence k méně organizovaným formám turismu s respektem k hostitelské kultuře a důrazem na vzdělávací rozměr. Oproti původnímu předpokladu nebylo cestování zelenými spotřebiteli vnímáno jako samo o sobě problematické, významný byl spíše jeho účel a konkrétní forma turismu.

Abstract:

The thesis addresses the issue of tourism and travel in relation to green lifestyle through the theoretical lens of reflexive modernization. A qualitative study based on interviews with young green consumers was conducted in order to explore the ways in which they experience and construct the meaning of travel in the context of their environmentally friendly lifestyle and subjective sense of green identity. The underlying assumption was that international leisure travel would be experienced as being in conflict with green practices and concerns for the environment and thus accompanied by feelings of inconsistency and ambivalence. Though this assumption was confirmed to certain extent, the ways in which young green consumers understand and construct the meaning of travel proved to be far more complex. In spite of individual differences, the general tendency towards less formalized and more culturally sensitive forms of travel was observed within the research sample. An educational element of travel was also important. Therefore, while some forms of travel were perceived as harmful to both natural and cultural environment, others were seen as largely unproblematic and indeed beneficial for the individual as well as the society.
