Short-term foster care: foster parent grief and its predictors

Abstract:

Cílem této studie bylo ověřit vztahy mezi vybranými osobními a situačními faktory a mírou pěstouny proží-vaného zármutku po odchodu dítěte z pěstounské péče na přechodnou dobu. Sledován byl zejména vliv se-parační úzkosti pěstounů a vnímání jejich role ve vztahu ke svěřenému dítěti na úrovni rodiče či profesionál-ního pracovníka. Za cílem ověřit tyto vztahy byl proveden výzkum na vzorku 64 přechodných pěstounů v České republice ve věku od 37 do 58 let (M=48,69; SD=5,26), z čehož bylo 61 žen a 3 muži. Všichni respon-denti za sebou měli alespoň jednu zkušenost s PPPD, která byla v minulosti ukončena předáním dítěte. Re-spondenti byli oslovováni prostřednictvím doprovázejících organizací a Facebooku, data byla sbírána pomo-cí online sebeposuzovacího dotazníku. Byly provedeny dvě mnohonásobné regresní analýzy a analýza roz-ptylu. Výsledky ukázaly, že jako signifikantní prediktory míry pěstouny prožívaného zármutku po ukončení PPPD jsou pouze separační úzkost pěstouna a jím vnímaná role, vliv situačních faktorů nebyl statisticky významný. Výsledky a jejich možné využití v praxi jsou diskutovány v kontextu předchozích výzkumných zjištění.

Abstract:

The aim of this study was to examine the relationships between selected personal and situational characteris-tics and foster parent grief in the context of short-term foster care. The main subjects were adult separation anxiety and role perception as predictors of the foster parent grief. There was a quantitative research to verify these relationships. The data were collected from 64 short-term foster carers in the Czech republic aged 37-58 (M=48,69; SD=5,26). 61 of the responders were women and 3 men. Every one of them has had at least one previous experience with short-term foster care that ended in the past. The responders were addressed through their support organizations and though Facebook. To collect the data, an on-line self-report ques-tionnaire was used. The data were analyzed with multiple linear regressions and analysis of variance. The results confirmed that adult separation anxiety and role perception predict the extent of foster parent grief, however no significant relationship with the situational factors was found. All of the results are discussed in the context of previous research findings.
