Contrast Sensitivity in Anizometropic and Strabismic Amblyopia in High and Low Temporal Frequencies

Abstract:

Kontrastní citlivost je jedním z deskriptorů kvality kortikálního zpracování vizuální informace. Prostorově časová kontrastní citlivost je detailnějším popisem.Snížení kontrastní citlivosti je jedním z projevů amblyopie. Popis změn v prostorově časové kontrastní citlivosti u amblyopických subjektů představuje další krok ve výzkumu amblyopie. Parvo celulární dráha zpracovává stimuly o vysokých prostorových frekvencích a nízké časové frekvence, oproti tomu magno celulární dráha zpracovává stimuly s nízkou prostorovou frekvencí a vysoké časové frekvence. Porovnání změn u skupin dvou typů amblyopů může nabídnout lepší představu o změnách ve zpracování vizuálního vjemu ve vztahu k postižení parvo a magno celulární dráhy.

Abstract:

Contrast sensitivity gives the complex description of the quality of cortical processing of the visual perception. Spatiotemporal contrast sensitivity function brings us even better depiction of the quality of vision. One of the consequences of neuroanatomical changes in amblyopia is lower contrast sensitivity. The changes in static contrast sensitivity are known and well described. Description of changes in spatiotemporal contrast sensitivity function in amblyopic patients may be another interesting step in research of amblyopia. Parvocellular part of the visual pathway is sensitive for the experimental stimulus in high spatial frequencies and low temporal frequencies. On the contrary the magnocellular part of the visual pathway is more sensitive for the stimulus in low spatial and high temporal frequencies. Comparison of the results from the two groups of subjects with different types of amblyopia can give us better understanding of the changes in visual processing in amblyopes in relation to magno and parvo cellular pathways.
