The Travelogues of the First Half of the 19th Century as the Genre of Difference and Czechoslovak Correlative Understanding

Abstract:

The name of my thesis is ,,The Travelogues of the First Half of the 19th Century as the Genre of Difference and Czechoslovak Correlative Understanding’’. The main goal is to compare Slovak and Czech relations in travelogues from Czechoslovak location from the period mentioned above. My thesis is divided into three parts. The first one dedicated to the first half of 19th century in Slovak literature and compared with Czech situation. I am writing about the language question and problems of accepting Czech language as one’s own. Then the work continues with the characteristic of the travelogue and a brief history of travelogues and also of Czech and Slovak travelogues from the first half of the 19th century. After that I mention the term imagology and its relation to travelogues. In the second part, I adduced authors connected to the period, namely Jozef Miloslav Hurban, Jan Helcelet, Vilém Dušan Lambl, František Cyril Kampelík, František ladislav Rieger, and some others. I am also characterizing their travelogues and writing some of the common information. The third part is about the travelogue of Jozef Miloslav Hurban called “Cesta Slováka ku bratrům slavenským na Moravě a v Čechách” (The Trip of the Slovak to the Slavic Brothers in Moravia and Bohemia) and of Vilém Dušan Lambl called “Zápisky cestujícího po Slovensku r. 1846” (The notes of the traveler from Slovakia from the 1846). This part is all dedicated to interpretations of both travelogues and comparing relations between the Slovak and the Czech notes.

Abstract:

Názov mojej bakalárskej práce je ,,Cestopisy v prvej polovici 19. storočia ako žáner inakosti a česko – slovenského vzájomného porozumenia‘‘ Hlavným cieľom je porovnanie slovenských a českých vzťahov v cestopisnej tvorbe z Československého prostredia v období spomenutom vyššie. Práca je rozdelená do troch častí. Prvá kapitola je venovaná prvej polovici 19. storočia v slovenskej literatúre a porovnaniu so situáciou v Česku. Píšem o jazykovej otázke a probléme akceptácie českého jazyka ako nášho vlastného. Práca pokračuje charakteristikou cestopisu a stručnou históriou, ako aj česko-slovenskými cestopismi z prvej polovice 19. storočia. Spomínam tu pojem imagológia a jej vzťah k cestopisom. V druhej predstavujem autorov spojených s obdobím Jozef Miloslav Hurban, Jan Helcelet, Vilém Dušan Lambl, František Cyril Kampelík, František ladislav Rieger a ďalších. Taktiež charakterizujem ich cestopisy a popisujem všeobecné informácie v spojitosti s dielami. Tretia časť je venovaná cestopisom Jozefa Miloslava Hurbana “Cesta Slováka ku bratrům slavenským na Moravě a v Čechách” a Viléma Dušana Lambla “Zápisky cestujícího po Slovensku r. 1846”. Sú tu interpretácie oboch diel a porovnanie zápiskov slovenského a českého cestopisu.
