Sigmund Freud's Opinions on Religion and Their Place in Contemporary Study of Religions

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá dílem Sigmunda Freuda se zaměřením na jeho myšlenky o náboženství a jejich vliv na psychoanalytické hnutí do současnosti. Nabízí přehled jeho vybraných pokračovatelů a akademické, teologické a feministické kritiky. V závěru se pokouší o debatu nad religionistickým přínosem této oblasti a dochází ke dvěma tématům, jež by si zasloužily podrobnější rozpracování. Jsou jimi vývoj postfreudovské analytické psychologie mezi polaritami odmítání náboženství a jeho přijetím a dialog mezi psychoanalytickými a teologickými autory. Tato témata považuje za přínosná mimo jiné kvůli předpokladu, že poznatky a metody kognitivní vědy poskytnou psychoanalýze nové možnosti.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the works of Sigmund Freud with emphasis on his opinions about religion and their influence on the psychoanalytic movement through time. It provides an overview of his followers and of academic, theologic and feministic critique. At the end, the thesis discuses the psychoanalytic contribution to the Studies of Religion and points out two topics for further study. One is the change of attitude to religion in the postfreudian psychoanalytic movement and the second is the broad dialogue led between psychoanalysts and theologists. These topics are considered valuable assuming that cognitive science will provide new methods and data for application in the psychoanalytic theory.
