A social role of the only child in the classroom

Abstract:

Diplomová práce pojednává o jedináčcích a jejich sociální roli ve školní třídě. Cílem práce bylo zjistit, jakou sociální roli jedináček obvykle zastává v prostředí školní třídy. Dílčím cílem bylo zjistit, zda jsou stereotypy o jedináčcích pravdivé a každý z jedináčků podléhá vlastnostem a sociálním chováním typických pro jedináčky. Teoretická část definuje pojmy vztahujících se k sociálním rolím, sociálním skupinám, rodině výchově a jedináčkům. Empirická část je řešena formou kombinace kvalitativního a kvantitativního výzkumu. Pro sběr dat byla využita metoda pozorování, sociometrie a rozhovoru. Na základě pozorování, byla v obou skupinách přidělena respondentům sociální role a zhodnoceno, zda jednotliví respondenti vykazují stereotypní sociální chování jedináčků či nikoliv. Pomocí sociometrického testu byla vyhodnocena sociální role respondentů experimentální i kontrolní skupiny. Na závěr byly výsledky pozorování a sociometrie doplněny a potvrzeny výpovědí respondentky v rámci strukturovaného rozhovoru. Výsledky práce uvádějí, že pro jedináčky neexistuje jediná společná sociální role ve školní třídě, ale každý z nich může zastávat jakoukoliv z rolí nezávisle na své rodinné konstelaci. Nebylo ani potvrzeno, že by stereotypy sociálního chování a vlastnosti spojené s jedináčky byly pro všechny jedináčky společné. Ani jeden ze zkoumaných jedináčků nevykazoval všechny stereotypní vlastnosti ani sociální chování přiřazující se k jedináčkům.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with only children and their social role in the school classroom. The aim of the thesis was to find out what social role an only child usually plays in the school classroom environment. A sub-objective was to find out if the stereotypes about only children are true and each only child is subject to the characteristics and social behaviors typical of only children. The theoretical part defines concepts related to social roles, social groups, family upbringing and only children. The empirical part is addressed through a combination of qualitative and quantitative research. Observation, sociometry and interview method were used for data collection. Based on the observation, social roles were assigned to the respondents in both groups and whether or not the individual respondents exhibit stereotypical social behavior of only children. The social role of the respondents of both experimental and control groups was evaluated using sociometric test. Finally, the observation and sociometry results were complemented and confirmed by the respondent's testimony in a structured interview. The results of the study indicate that there is no single common social role for only children in the school classroom, but each of them can occupy any of the roles independently of their family constellation. Nor was it confirmed that the social behaviour stereotypes and characteristics associated with only children were common to all only children. None of the only children studied exhibited all of the stereotypic traits or social behaviors associated with only children.
