Economy and the funding resources of the Islamic State

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je zpracována formou případové studie, zabývající se zdroji prostředků organizace Islámský stát (IS) a jeho ekonomikou. V úvodní části jsou stručně uvedeny základní charakteristiky Islámského státu a taktéž historický vývoj diskutováného aktéra, včetně nejdůležitějších milníků. Tato fakta jsou uvedeny s cílem kontextuálního uvedení do dané problematiky a tudíž snadnějšího pochopení textu práce. Následují informace nastiňující souvislosti vzniku ekonomiky Islámského státu jakožto faktoru, zastávajícícho kritickou roli v udržení První z nich popisuje vlastní zdroje IS; jako například výběr výkupného z únosů, zisky z konfiskací majetku, nebo výběr daní od místního obyvatelstva. Druhá podkapitola je následně věnována zdrojům zahraničním, k nimž se řadí prodej nerostných surovin a vyrabovaného antického bohatství, dotace od spojenců a v neposlední řadě prodej drog. V závěrečné části jsou získané informace shrnuty, s cílem jak poukázat na roli ekonomiky a zdrojů prostředků IS v jeho prozatímní schopnosti přežití v obecně nepřátelském mezinárodním prostředí; tak také nastínit nejpravděpodobnější možnosti budoucího vývoje tohoto aktéra.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis in form of a case study aims to introduce the economics and funding resources of the Islamic state. In the first part, there are the basic characteristics if the Islamic state mentioned and also, the historic evolution of the discussed actor including the most important milestones. These facts are mentioned mainly to make the understanding of the thesis easier. The following informations they outline the context of formation of the Islamic economics as a factor that plays a critical role for ongoing existence of the organization. The main part of the thesis deals with the particular funding resources of the Islamic state. To be intelligible, this part is divided into two chapters. First of them describes own resources of the Islamic state itself; for example, ransom from kidnapping, confiscating estates of the local people or collecting taxes. Second chapter informs about abroad resources including sales of petrol, gas or stolen ancient artifacts, donations from the Islamic state´s allies, drug trade and so on. In the last part of thesis there are all acquired facts summarized with the aim to highlight the role of economics and funding resources of the Islamic state for its interim ability to survive in widely hostile environment.
