Inter-generational transmission of self-regulatory strategies

Abstract:

This thesis examines the intergenerational transmission of self-regulatory strategies within The selection, optimalization, and compensation model (model SOC). The research was conducted using an online questionnaire that included demographic questions, the abbreviated 44-item version of the Big Five Inventory, and the abbreviated 12-item version of the Selection, Optimization, and Compensation Questionnaire. The research sample consisted of 46 families (mother, father, offspring), totaling 138 respondents from the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The results did not indicate any differences between mothers and fathers in the intergenerational transmission of self-regulatory strategies across any dimension of the SOC model. The analysis revealed statistically significant agreements in all SOC dimensions between mothers and sons and between fathers and sons. Additionally, our research identified positive correlations between fathers' extraversion and conscientiousness and offspring's selection choices, while negative correlations emerged between fathers' agreeableness and offspring's compensation.

Abstract:

Táto práca sa zaoberá medzigeneračným prenosom sebaregulačných stratégií v rámci modelu selekcie, optimalizácie a kompenzácie (model SOC). Výskum bol realizovaný formou online dotazníka, ktorý sa skladal z demografických otázok, Big Five Inventory v skrátenej 44 položkovej verzii a dotazníku selekcie, optimalizácie a kompenzácie v skrátenej 12 položkovej verzii. Výskumný súbor tvorilo 46 rodín (matka, otec, potomok), to znamená 138 respondentov z Českej a Slovenskej republiky. Výsledky výskumu nepreukázali rozdiely medzi matkami a otcami v medzigeneračnom prenose sebaregulačných stratégií ani v jednej dimenzii modelu SOC. Analýza odhalila štatisticky významné zhody vo všetkých dimenziách SOC medzi matkami a synmi a medzi otcami a synmi. V poslednom rade sme v rámci nášho výskumu identifikovali pozitívne korelácie medzi extraverziou a svedomitosťou otcov a zvolenou selekciou potomkov. Negatívna korelácia sa ukázala medzi prívetivosťou otcov a kompenzáciou potomkov.
