Abstract:

Vzhledem k jejímu vlivu na stabilitu stromů a relevantnímu ekologickému potenciálu, vyžaduje degradace dřeva městských stromů působená dřevními houbami komplexní přístup. Tato práce má za cíl přispět ke zlepšení nedestruktivních přístrojových metod, používaných pro hodnocení stability stromů napadených dřevními houbami. Podrobnější popis mechanických a fyzikálních vlastností degradovaného dřeva, z přírodního i umělého prostředí, může vést k přesnějším výstupům akustické tomografie a jejich lepší interpretaci. Experimentální část je rozdělena do pěti studií, zahrnujících čtyři publikované články v časopisech s impakt faktorem a jeden příspěvek ve sborníku konference. První dvě studie jsou zaměřeny na tomografické hodnocení provedené na dvou dřevinách: dubu letním (Quercus robur L.) (dub) a buku lesním (Fagus sylvatica L.) (buk). Jejich součástí jsou další fyzikální a mechanická testování v laboratorním prostředí. Většina posuzovaných stromů měla známky houbové kolonizace. U buku lesního byly izolovány a identifikovány kmeny hub přítomné v hodnocených průřezech. Další tri články představují výsledky mechanického a fyzikálního testování bukového dřeva po umělé inokulaci třemi různými dřevními houbami: Kretzschmaria deusta (Hoff.) P.M.D. Martin, Fomes fomentarius (L.) Fr. a Fomes inzengae (Ces, and de Not.) Lécuru. V první studii, byly zhodnoceny tři duby třemi různými akustickými tomografy. Po měření byly všechny stromy pokáceny. Průřezy, na kterých byla provedena akustická tomografie, byly převezeny do laboratoře, kde byly stanoveny různé fyzikální vlastnosti, včetně rychlosti šíření stresové vlny. Hlavním cílem bylo porovnat surové výstupy (rychlosti šíření stresových vln) získané z každého zařízení a výstupy naměřené v laboratorním prostředí. Rovněž byly porovnány obrazové rekonstrukce generované všemi zařízeními. Druhá studie porovnává výsledky akustické tomografie dvou kolonizovaných buků s detailním laboratorním rozborem fyzikálních a mechanických vlastností posuzovaných průřezů. Navíc byly z každého průřezu izolovány různé kmeny dřevních hub, což popisuje komplexitu houbové kolonizace ve stojících stromech. Implementace tomografických výstupů absolutními hodnotami objemové hmotnosti degradovaných zón, v kombinaci s hodnocenými rychlostmi napěťových vln, vedla k lepší korespondenci s mezí pevnosti v tlaku podél vláken. Třetí studie představuje srovnání dynamických a statických mechanických vlastností bukového dřeva po umělé inokulaci dřevní houbou K. deusta. Dále byly porovnány heterogenita distribuce hustoty způsobená degradací houbami a výsledky získané z vibro-akustického a statického ohybového testování. Byla prokázána silná korelace mezi dynamickým modulem pružnosti v ohybu (MOED) a statickou mezí pevnosti v ohybu (MOR). Tento vztah byl aplikovatelný jak pro intaktní, tak i degradované vzorky. Čtvrtá studie se zaměřuje na srovnání způsobů rozkladu hub F. fomentarius a F. inzengae na bukovém dřevě z fyzikálního, mechanického a morfologického hlediska. Mezi těmito dvěma druhy hub nebyly nalezeny žádné relevantní rozdíly. U obou druhů byla prokázána silná korelace mezi MOED a MOR. Morfologické znaky degradace všech tří druhů hub byly prezentovány pomocí elektronové mikroskopie.Pátá studie ukazuje na rozdílný vliv degradace způsobené dřevní houbou K. deusta na dva různé dynamické parametry: MOED a útlum vibrací. Výsledky prezentované v této práci ukazují, že vibroakustické a hustotní parametry mají potenciál poskytnout přesnější nedestruktivní hodnocení degradovaného dřeva v přirozeném i umělém prostředí. Abstract:

Due to its impact on tree stability and relevant ecological potential, the fungal degradation of wood in standing urban trees requires a comprehensive approach. This thesis aims to contribute to the enhancement of non-destructive, device-supported methods used for assessing trees that have been colonised by wood-decay fungi. A more detailed description of the mechanical and physical properties of degraded wood from both natural and artificial environments can lead to more precise outputs from acoustic tomography and improve their interpretation. The experimental part of the thesis is divided into five studies, comprising four published articles in journals with impact factor and one conference proceedings paper. The first two studies focus on field tomographic assessments carried out on two wood species: pedunculate oak (Quercus robur L.) (oak) and European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) (beech), followed by physical and mechanical investigations in a laboratory environment. Most assessed specimens showed signs of fungal colonisation. For European beech, fungal strains present in the assessed cross-sections were isolated and identified. The other three articles present the results of mechanical and physical testing of beech wood artificially exposed to three different wood-decay fungi: Kretzschmaria deusta (Hoff.) P.M.D. Martin, Fomes fomentarius (L.) Fr., and Fomes inzengae (Ces, and de Not.) Lécuru. In the first study, three oak trees were assessed using three different acoustic tomography devices. Subsequently, the assessed specimens were felled, and the cross-sections where acoustic tomography was carried out were removed and transported to the laboratory for further assessment. Different physical properties, including stress-wave velocity, were evaluated. The main objective was to compare the raw outputs (stress-wave velocities) obtained from each device and those measured in the laboratory environment. The image reconstructions generated by all devices were also compared. The second study compares the results of the acoustic tomography assessment of two colonised beech trees with a detailed laboratory physical and mechanical analysis of the assessed cross-sections. Additionally, different fungal strains were isolated from each cross-section, representing the complexity of fungal colonisation in standing trees. The implementation of tomography outputs by absolute density values of the degraded zones, in combination with assessed stress-wave velocities, led to a better representation of the distribution of compressive strength. The third study presents a comparison of the dynamic and static mechanical properties of beech wood artificially inoculated with the wood decay fungus K. deusta. Additionally, the heterogeneity of the density distribution caused by fungal degradation was compared with the results obtained from vibro-acoustic and static bending testing. A strong correlation was found between the dynamic bending modulus of elasticity (MOED) and the modulus of rupture (MOR). This relationship was applicable to both intact and degraded samples. The fourth study focuses on the comparison of decay patterns of F. fomentarius and F. inzengae on beech from a physical, mechanical, and morphological point of view. No significant differences were found between the two fungal species. A strong correlation between MOED and MOR was observed for both species. Morphological decay patterns for all three fungal species were presented through scanning electron microscopy. The fifth study shows the different impact of fungal degradation caused by K. deusta od two different dynamic parameters: MOED and vibrational damping. The results presented in this thesis demonstrate the potential of vibro-acoustic and density parameters in providing a more accurate non-destructive assessment of degraded green wood in both natural and artificial environments.
