Abstract:

Ve své bakaláské práci jsem se pokusila piblížit vybrané myšlenky rakouského filosofa a sociologa, sira Karla R. Poppera, týkající se pevážn jeho názor na spolenost. Popper se stal horlivým obhájcem myšlenky otevené spolenosti a kritikem všech, kteí se podle nj snažili tuto myšlenku potlait. V knize Bída historicismu Popper kriticky hodnotí historicismus a odmítá jej jako nelegitimní vdeckou metodu, založenou na mylném pedpokladu, že odhalením historických zákon lze pedvídat budoucí vývoj spolenosti. Význam tohoto problému, který dále rozšíil o kritiku utopismu a totalitarismu, Popper rozvedl v dvoudílné knize Otevená spolenost a její nepátelé, kde reflektoval rzné teorie zastánc historicismu a ukazoval jejich škodlivý vliv na sociální a politickou filozofii dvacátého století. Celý první díl vnoval kritice Platóna a jeho koncepci ideálního státu, kterou chápal jako totalitární. Ve druhém díle analyzoval Hegelovy a Marxovy sociologické a politologické myšlenky a stejn jako Platóna je obvinil z toho, že se na základ historicistické argumentace pokusili prosadit ideu návratu k uzavené spolenosti na úkor prosazující se spolenosti otevené. Popper sám byl celý život zastáncem demokratických hodnot otevené spolenosti jako je individuální svoboda, tolerance, zodpovdnost za své jednání a snaha hledat pravdu. Uzavená spolenost pro nj naopak pedstavovala hrozbu ztráty osobní svobody a nastolení totalitární moci. To, že Popperovy myšlenky jsou stále aktuální, dokazuje stále trvající debata o tom, kam by dnešní spolenost mla smovat, jak nejlépe prosazovat demokracii a víru v rozum. Cítíme potebu zdrazovat výjimenost každého jednotlivce a jeho života a snažíme se pibližovat ideálu otevené spolenosti.

Abstract:

In my thesis I am dealing with some ideas of the Austrian philosopher and sociologist, sir Karl R. Popper. I focus predominantly on his views on society. Popper has become an obdurate defender of the idea of an open society and criticised those that rejected it. In The Poverty of Historicism he refuses historicism as a legitimate scientific method, which in his view is founded on a mistaken belief that by discovering the laws of history one can predict the future development of society. This issue is pursued more thoroughly in The Open Society and Its Enemies, along with a criticism of Utopianism and Totalitarianism. Popper here looks at the different historicist theories and points at their bad influence on social and political philosophy of the twentieth century. In the first part of this book he subjects Plato and his conception of an ideal state, for Popper a totalitarian one, under close scrutiny. In the second part he analyses the sociological and political thinking of Hegel and Marx and accuses them, in the same way as he accuses Plato, of trying to push through the idea of the return to closed society at the expense of a developing open society through historicist argumentation. Popper himself was a proponent of democratic values of the open society, be they individual freedom, tolerance, responsibility for ones action or the quest for truth. Closed society on the other hand represented to him a threat of losing individual freedom and of the establishment of totalitarian power. The ongoing debate about where present-day society is heading, about how to advance democracy and the belief in reason, proves that Poppers ideas are still topical. We feel the need to promote the exceptionality of an individual and his/her life and we are trying to get closer to the idea of an open society.
