Abstract:

S narastajúcou digitalizáciou dnešného sveta sa takisto prirodzene zvyšuje dopyt po bezpečnej sieťovej komunikácii. TLS protokol zaisťujúci dôvernosť dátových tokov medzi jednotlivými zariadeniami sa preto stáva jedným zo základných bezpečnostných prvkov súčasného kyberpriestoru. Šifrovanie, ktoré TLS protokol poskytuje, je však čoraz častejšie zneužívané pre účely utajovania malígnej komunikácie iniciovanej zariadeniami napadnutými distribúciami rôznych typov malwaru. Hlavným cieľom tejto diplomovej práce je analýza TLS certifikátov zneužitých na túto škodlivú komunikáciu, pozorovanie ich špecifík a zhrnutie najvýraznejších znakov odlišujúcich ich od benígnych certifikátov. Z výsledkov analýzy je následne implementovaný nástroj pre identifikáciu potenciálne nežiaducich TLS certifikátov, ktoré vykazujú znaky podobné skúmanej vzorke.

Abstract:

With the constant increase of digitalization of our world, there could have been also observed a natural growth in need for secure networking. The TLS protocol ensuring confidentiality of data streams between individual devices is therefore becoming one of the fundamental security elements of the current cyberspace. The encryption provided by TLS is, however, often misused for the purposes of obfuscating malicious communication initiated by devices infected by various malware distributions. The main goal of this thesis is an analysis of TLS certificates misused for such unfavourable communication, observation of their specifics and providing a summary of the most significant attributes distinguishing them from benign certificates. From the outputs of the analysis, a tool dedicated to recognition of potential malign TLS certificates showing similarities to the researched sample is implemented.
