Wage discrimination of women in managerial positions in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá analýzou mzdových rozdílů na řídících pozicích v České republice. Cílem této práce je podat ucelený pohled na problematiku diskriminace žen na trhu práce a genderových mzdových rozdílů v České republice se zaměřením na manažerské pozice. Teoretická část se zabývá vymezením souvisejících pojmů, vysvětlením pojmu genderová segregace, popsáním diskriminačních teorií a odlišností v kompetencích mezi muži a ženami a definováním možných bariér během kariéry manažerky. Teoretická část taktéž obsahuje vysvětlení nerovného zastoupení žen v managementu a popsání vývoje GPG v minulosti. Praktická část se zabývá vývojem makroekonomických ukazatelů od roku 2004, které úzce souvisejí s GPG, s vývojem obecného GPG a GPG v řídících pozicích. Následně je zhodnocena aktuální situace GPG v rámci EU a porovnány mzdové rozdíly u pracovníků na řídících pozicích v EU. Česká republika se řadí na druhé místo v rámci největších mzdových rozdílů v EU. V závěru praktické části jsem interpretovala výsledky z dotazníkového šetření s manažery o jejich konkrétních názorech a zkušenostech s diskriminací žen na trhu práce a gender pay gap.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with an analysis of wage differences in management positions in the Czech Republic. The aim of this thesis is to give a comprehensive view of the issue of discrimination of women in the labor market and gender wage differences in the Czech Republic with a focus on managerial positions. The theoretical part deals with a definition of related terms, a explanation of gender segregation, a description of discriminatory theories and differences in competence between men and women and a definition of possible barriers during the career of a manager. The theoretical part also includes an explanation of an unequal representation of women in management and a description of a development of GPG in the past. The practical part deals with the development of macroeconomic indicators since 2004, which are closely related to GPG, general GPG development and GPG development in management positions. On the basis of the data, I concluded that general wage differences in the Czech Republic did not decrease significantly and fluctuated at 22.67 %, while wage differences in management positions decreased by 33.6 % since 2004. Subsequently, the current situation of GPG within the EU and the comparison of wage differences in management positions in the EU are analyzed. The Czech Republic ranks second among the largest wage differences in the EU. At the end of the practical part I interpreted the results from a questionnaire survey with managers about their specific opinions and experiences with the discrimination of women on a labour market and gender pay gap.
