Gender Equality under The Liberal and The Difference Feminism - The Theory and Practice

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá teorií a praxí liberálního a diferenčního feminismu. Jendná se o feminismy, které jsou jedněmi z nejvlivnějších feministických směrů 2.poloviny 20.století.Struktura této práce je rozdělena na dvě části - část teoretickou zabývající se historií a základními teoretickými myšlenkami obou směrů a část praktickou, která rozebírá praktické náměty obou feminismů,jenž mají nerovnosti mezi pohlavími odstranit, a která je doplněna o drobné příklady ze skutečné politické praxe. Kapitola věnující se teorii veřejné sféry doplňuje celou práci o kritický teoretický pohled feministických myslitelek na Habermasovo pojetí veřejné sféry. Úkolem této práce je podat základní souhrn teoretických a praktických pohledů obou feministických směrů, doplňených o základní teoretická díla a o malé praktické příklady uplatnění jejich teorie v praxi západních demokratických států. Následně pak bude možné poznatky z této práce využít jako náměty pro další rozsáhlejší a podrobnější analýzy, ať už při dalším studiu liberálního a diferenčního feminismu, nebo při zkoumání feminismu obecně.

Abstract:

This bachelor´s thesis is concerned with theory and practice of liberal feminism and difference feminism. These are the most influential feminist approaches of whole contemporary feminist thought. The structure of this work is based on two parts - theoretical part and the part which describes real practices of those feminisms expressing in the public space. The first theoretical part of this thesis depicts historical roots of both feminisms and their main ideas. The second part consequently describes practical agendas of liberal and difference feminism and their several examples asserted in state policies. The chapter about public sphere may be auxiliary part to the main theme, describing the feminist point of view on the Habermasian concept of public sphere. Although, both feminisms have different purposes and ideas, have similar starting point partly. These facts signify practical policy and different political issues of both feminisms. These aspects can be traced out in basic theoretical works of significant thinkers distinguishing liberal and difference feminism. Simone de Beauvoir´s "The Second Sex" and Betty Friedan´s "The Feminine Mystique" stand for the liberal feminism in this thesis and Nancy Hartsock´s "The Feminist Standpoint", Carole Pateman´s "The Sexual Contract" and Carol Gilligan´s "In a Different Voice" represent difference feminism. This thesis consists of all these work to complete whole topic. Finally, this thesis may serve as a basic start point for more theoretical or practical political analyses concerned with feminism in general or with liberal and difference feminism particularly.
