Music Life in Nový Jičín in the "Long" 19th Centrury

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je podat všeobecný přehled o hudebním životě v Novém Jičíně v „dlouhém“ 19. století a k danému tématu sesbírat dostupné materiály a informace. Dlouhé 19. století je vymezeno pro účely této práce roky 1800 a 1918, tedy otevřením novojičínského tanečního sálu a zánikem rakousko-uherské monarchie. V práci jsou zmapovány místní lidové zvyky a obyčeje, všímá si zdejšího folklóru a zaobírá se prací sběratelů lidových písní a tanců. Kromě životopisů sběratelů jsou do práce zařazeny i životopisy dalších významných osobností, které přispěly do hudebního dění ve městě. V práci je vyzdvižena úloha budov, ve kterých se mohl člověk setkat s hudbou, opomenuty nejsou ani místní kostely. Úkolem práce je také přiblížit organizaci a práci německých a českých spolků, které se výrazně podílely na novojičínském hudebním životě.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to make a general survey of the music life in Nový Jičín during the “long“ 19th century, and to gather available documentation and information about the given topic. The long 19th century is delimited for the purposes of this thesis by the years 1800 and 1918, the former being the year when a ballroom was opened in Nový Jičín, the latter being the year of the end of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. The thesis maps out local folk traditions and customs, takes notice of the local folklore, and deals with the work of collectors of folk songs and dances. Besides the collectors’ biographies, the thesis includes biographies of other prominent personalities, who contributed to the music events in the town. The thesis highlights the role of the buildings in which music could be encountered; neither does it omit the local churches. Another objective of the thesis is also to outline the organization and work of the German and Czech associations which markedly participated in the music life in Nový Jičín.
