Friendship with ex-partner: reasons and predictors

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se věnuje zkoumání přátelství s bývalými partnery. Prvním cílem této práce bylo objasnit, jaké důvody jedince vedou k udržování těchto vztahů. Druhým cílem bylo zjistit, zda existují nějaké spolehlivé prediktory, ze kterých by se dalo usoudit na to, zda se jedinec bude či nebude přátelit se svým ex-partnerem. První části výzkumu (focus group) se zúčastnilo 7 participantů. Byl sestaven seznam s 25 důvody přátelství s ex partnerem. Byly nalezeny 4 faktory (důvody): přetrvávající pouto, praktické záležitosti, porozumění, výhody. Druhé části výzkumu se zúčastnilo 572 respondentů. Jednalo se o jedince, kteří označili, že se přátelí s ex partnerem (N = 360), a ty, kteří označili, že se nepřátelí či ex přítele nemají (N = 212). Na základě výsledků logistické regrese lze konstatovat, že signifikantními prediktory jsou pohlaví, sexuální orientace, přívětivost, svědomitost a otevřenost ke zkušenosti. Ostatní prediktory se neukázaly jako signifikantní.

Abstract:

The purpose of the bachelor thesis is to research friendships with ex-partners. The first aim of the study was to clarify which reasons lead an individual to maintain these friendships. The second aim was to determine whether there are any reliable predictors to assess whether an individual will or will not be friends with his ex-partner. The research sample in the first part of the study included 7 participants. A list of 25 friendship-with-ex reasons was complied. 4 factors were found: the persistent bond, practical issues, understanding and benefits. The second part of the research involved 572 respondents. These include both the individuals who identified they have friendship with ex-partner (N = 360) and those who identified that they have not (N = 212). Based on the results of logistic regression can be concluded that significant predictors are gender, sexual orientation, agreeableness, conscientiousness and openness to experience. The other predictors have not been significantly proven.
