Historical reflection of Czech game events between years 1990 and 2010. A case study of the ENTERmultimediale festival

Abstract:

Tato magisterská diplomová práce se zabývá herními událostmi, jako jsou festivaly, přehlídky a veletrhy v období 90. let a raného milénia, a zkoumá je skrze případovou studii festivalu ENTERmultimediale v kontextu dobové herní kultury a etablování digitálních her umělecké reflexi. Případová studie je založená na analýze paratextuál-ních materiálů, zejména festivalových katalogů z jednotlivých ročníků festivalu. Práce se vyrovnává s bohatou historií média digtitálních her v České republice a téma ukot-vuje v teoretickém pojednání digitálních her v každodenním životě.

Abstract:

This master's thesis examines game events such as festivals and conventions in the 1990s and early millennium and explores them through the case study of the ENTERmultimediale festival in the context of contemporary gaming culture and the es-tablishment of digital games in artistic reflection. The case study is based on an anal-ysis of paratextual materials, in particular festival catalogues from the various edi-tions of the festival. The thesis comes to terms with the rich history of the medium of digital games in the Czech Republic and anchors the topic in a theoretical discussion of digital games in everyday life.
