Abstract:

Tato práce se soustředí na otázky a problémy týkající se zdravotní péče, kterým čelí původní obyvatelé Spojených států amerických, především na problémy, kterým čelí populace původních obyvatel žijící v městských oblastech. Přestože jsou původní obyvatelé stále často spojování s životem v rezervacích, více než polovina jich dnes žije v městských oblastech. Tato práce rozebírá otázky týkající se zdravotní péče v různých fázích urbanizace, které byly ovlivněny také oficiální politikou federální vlády vůči původnímu obyvatelstvu. Cílem této práce je rozebrat zda se tyto otázky lišily v jednotlivých fázích urbanizace a porovnat osobní zkušenosti původních obyvatel, které se odráží v jejich literárních dílech s vyobrazením této problematiky v médiích a se záměry federální vlády Spojených států. Tato analýza by měla pomoci definovat klíčové otázky a problémy týkající se zdravotní péče a navrhnout případné budoucí řešení.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on health care issues faced by Native American population in the United States, primarily on health care issues faced by urban Native American population. Despite the fact that Native Americans are still often associated with life on reservations, more than half of Native population lives in urban areas nowadays. This thesis analyses health care issues in different stages of urbanization which were influenced also by official government policies. The aim of this thesis is to discuss whether health care issues differed in particular stages of urbanization and compare personal experience of Native Americans reflected in literature with representations of Native American health care issues in media and intentions of the U.S. government. This analysis should help to define key health care issues and suggest potential future solutions to these issues.
