Social Construction of Corporate Social Responsibility

Abstract:

The main goal of the presented bachelor's thesis titled The Social Construction of Corporate Social Responsibility is to present and describe different points of view on the corporate social responsibility (CSR) by distinct social agents. It tries to show that this phenomenon is not exclusively an economic issue. On the contrary, analyzed concept is permanently and diversely socially constructed. The theoretical base of the thesis are the social construction theory, the structuration theory and the Thomas´ theorem. Together with these theories and Mannheim's theory of social and existential conditionality of men's learning about social world, the author of this work wants to point out the repugnancy of positions and opinions of different agents in society about CSR: what it is and what it could or might be. The second part of the thesis presents the particular points of view on the scale from the least reflexive economic point of view, through stakeholder theory, to the philosophical-reflexive points of view, which perceive CSR as hypocritical. In the conclusion this work advert to the potential of CSR and the importance of sociological analysis of this phenomenon.

Abstract:

Predkladaná bakalárska práca s názvom Sociálna konštrukcia spoločenskej zodpovednosti firiem si dáva za cieľ predložiť a popísať rôzne pohľady na koncept spoločenskej zodpovednosti firiem, rozličnými aktérmi v spoločnosti. Snaží sa tým poukázať na fakt, že tento fenomén nie je výhradne ekonomickou záležitosťou. Naopak, skúmaný koncept je javom neustále a rôznorodo sociálne utváraným. Teoretickým základom práce sú hlavne sociálne-konštruktivistická teória, teória štrukturácie a Thomasov teorém. Pomocou týchto teórií a Mannheimovej teórie sociálnej a existenciálnej podmienenosti poznávania sociálneho sveta, sa autorka snaží poukázať na nezlučiteľnosť pozícií a názorov rôznych aktérov v spoločnosti ohľadom CSR: čo CSR vlastne je a čím by mohlo, alebo malo byť. V druhej časti práce predstavuje konkrétne pohľady na pomyselnej škále od najmenej reflexívneho ekonomického pohľadu, cez teóriu stakeholderov, až k filozoficko-reflexívnemu pohľadu, ktorý tento koncept vníma ako maximálne pokrytecký. V závere poukazuje na potenciál, ktorý v sebe CSR obnáša a na dôležitosť sociologického popisovania a analyzovania tohto fenoménu.
