Geochemistry of the sedimentary profile of the cave in Hranice Karst

Abstract:

Hranický kras patří k nejvýznamnějším územím České republiky z hlediska karsologie. Součástí Hranického krasu jsou i Zbrašovské aragonitové jeskyně, kde se nacházejí přiro-zené hlubinné vývěry teplé minerální vody s vysokým obsahem CO2, které daly vznik celému krasovému území (Hromas, 2009). Pozice Hranického krasu na rozhraní dvou významných evropských geologických celků – Českého masivu a Západních Karpat – zapříčinila jeho různorodý geologický vývoj (Otava et al., 2009). V rámci diplomové práce bylo provedeno geochemické zhodnocení vybraných se-dimentárních profilů v oblasti Hranického krasu. Konkrétně jsou hodnoceny profily ve Zbrašovských aragonitových jeskyních, Hranické propasti, Temných skálách a dva vrty, které zastihly miocenní sedimenty karpatské předhlubně. Odebrané vzorky byly vysušeny, podrceny a následně byly u všech stanoveny obsahy prvků metodou XRF (rentgenová fluorescenční analýza). U vybraných vzorků ze Zbrašovských aragonitových jeskyní a dvou vrtů byla dále studována jílová frakce, která byla ze vzorků vyseparována centrifu-gací. Orientované preparáty jílových minerálů byly analyzovány pomocí práškové rentge-nové difraktometrie (XRD) a výsledky zpracovány v programu HighScore. Z výsledků měření metodou XRF jsou patrné velké rozdíly v obsazích Mn, Fe, Zr, Rb, Cr, Pb, Ni a Cu. Minimální rozdíly byly zjištěny u Sr, V a Zn. V jílové frakci dominuje illit a kaolinit. Vedle těchto minerálů byl identifikován v jednom vzorku z vrtu i glaukonit.

Abstract:

The Hranice Karst is one of the most important areas of the Czech Republic in terms of karstology. The Hranice Karst also includes the Zbrašov aragonite caves, where there are natural deep springs of warm mineral water with a high CO2 content, which gave rise to the entire karst area (Hromas, 2009). The position of the Hranice karst on the border of two important European geological units – the Bohemian Massif and the Western Car-pathians – caused its diverse geological development (Otava et al., 2009). As part of the diploma thesis, a geochemical evaluation of selected sedimentary profiles in the area of the Hranice karst was performed. Specifically, the profiles in the Zbrašov aragonite caves, the Hranice Abyss, the Dark Rocks and two boreholes caught Miocene sediments of the Carpathian pre-deep are evaluated. The samples taken were dried, crushed and then the contents of the elements were determined by RFA (X-ray fluo-rescence analysis). The clay fraction, which was separated from the samples by centrifu-gation, was further studied in selected samples from the Zbrašov aragonite caves and two boreholes. Oriented clay mineral preparations were analyzed by powder X-ray diffrac-tometry (XRD) and the results were processed in the HighScore program. The results of RFA measurements show large differences in the contents of Mn, Fe, Zr, Rb, Cr, Pb, Ni and Cu. Minimal differences were found for Sr, V and Zn. The clay fraction is dominated by illite and kaolinite. In addition to these minerals, glauconite was also identified in one sample from the well.
