Terminal ballistics from the perspective of forensic science and forensic medicine

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce je strukturována do pěti kapitol. V nich se zaměřuje na obecnou konstrukční charakteristiku střel nábojů se středovým a okrajovým zápalem palných zbraní, následně, jak mohou tyto střely působit na tuhé a biologické cíle, a jaké fyzikální jevy definují podobu rázového zatěžování těchto objektů. Tyto jevy jsou popsány ve smyslu této práce z perspektivy kriminalistiky, kde kapitola o kriminalisticko-technickém pojetí terminální balistiky popisuje, jakým způsobem je možné na základě defektu cíle a střely kvantitativně vyjádřit dynamické a kinematické vlastností střely v momentě jejího dopadu na tento cíl. Dále kapitola týkající se soudně lékařského zkoumání terminální balistiky uvede, jak mohou střely narušovat biologickou tkáň, konkrétní typy defektů biologického cíle z hlediska typů střel, úhlů a vzdáleností výstřelu. V tematickém rámci této diplomové práce je zahrnuta rovněž problematika povýstřelových zplodin, kterým bude věnována závěrečná kapitola teoretické části. Ta uvede chemickou analýzu povýstřelových zplodin, a jak je možné tento doprovodný jev výstřelu zkoumat a vyhodnocovat. Praktická část je zaměřena na experimentální střelbu ze třech různých typů zbraní. Experiment byl založen na konstruování zařízení, které bude sloužit na vytvoření úhlového náměru na plochu, ke které bude vedena střelba. V sérii několika desítek výstřelů na tkaninu z relativně blízkých vzdáleností a úhlů od 90° do 30° byly střelou a povýstřelovými zplodinami zasažené tkaniny makroskopicky zkoumány a analyzovány. Cílem tohoto experimentu bylo popsat průběh tvorby stop deformace tkaniny a zejména pak obrazce povýstřelových zplodin, aby bylo možné pochopit, zda-li existuje logický systém, jak se tyto stopy tvoří, a jestli je možné pouze za použití makroskopické analýzy přibližně určit geometrii výstřelu.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis is structured into five chapters. They focus on the general design characteristics of bullets of rimfire and centerfire ammunition, then describe how bullet affect on solid and biological targets, and what physical phenomena define the form of impact at these objects. These phenomena are described in the frame of this work from the perspective of criminology, where the chapter forensic technology concept of terminal ballistics describes how it is possible to quantitatively express the dynamics and kinematic properties of a bullet at the moment of its impact on this target. Furthermore, the chapter terminal ballistics from the view of forensic medicine states how bullets can disrupt biological tissue, specific types of defects of biological targets in terms of types of bullets, angles and distance of shooting. The thematic framework of this diploma thesis also includes the issue of gunshot residues, which will be devoted to the final chapter of the theoretical part. It will present a chemical analysis of gunshot residues and how it is possible to investigate and evaluate this accompanying phenomenon of firing. The practical part is focused on experimental shooting from three different types of weapons. The experiment was based on the construction of a device that will serve to create an angular elevation on surface to which the shooting will be conducted. In a series of dozens of shots at the fabric from several close distances and angles from 90° to 30° were shot fabrics with gunshot residue patterns macroscopically analyzed. The aim of this experiment was to describe the course of the formation of traces of deformation of fabrics due to bullet impact and especially patterns of gunshot residue, to understand whether there is a logical system, how these traces are formed and if it is possible to determine the geometry of the shot using macroscopic analysis.
