Cloud computing in the university environment

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je zaměřena na cloud computing, který v posledních letech proniká také do akademické sféry. Pozornost je věnována zejména distribučnímu modelu Desktop as a Service, který je založen na technologii virtualizace. Cílem této práce je seznámení se s nejsilnějšími hráči na trhu se zaměřením na virtualizovanou desktopovou infrastrukturu a jejich produkty, které jsou potřebné k její implementaci. Dále je provedena rešerše cloudových řešení a sumarizace zkušeností jiných vysokoškolských institucí s těmito technologiemi. Dle nabytých znalostí jsou vyhodnocena technická řešení, která odpovídají požadavkům Západočeské univerzity v Plzni, a nastíněna jejich ekonomická náročnost.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is aimed to cloud computing, which is also used in academic environment in recent years. There is paid attention especially to the more often sold distribution model Desktop as a Service recently, whose core is technology of virtualization. The goal of the thesis is to become acquainted with the strong market players in virtualized desktop infrastructure and their products, which are necessary for implementation, and perform search of cloud solutions and summarize the gained experiences of other university institutions related with these technologies. Based on the knowledge acquired there are evaluated technical solutions, that meet requirements of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, and outlined the economical aspects.
