The Impact of the Holocaust on the Third Generation of Survivors

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the legacy of the holocaust survivors, concretely with its impact on the personal life of the holocaust-survivors’ grandchildren. A part of this thesis characterizes the posttraumatic stress disorder, the psychological trauma and its intergenerational transmission, which is analyzed as a controversial topic from different points of view. Along with overview of various studies there are also specified problems of all three generations effected by the Holocaust trauma.An analysis of a story of a concrete Jewish family, whose history connected with the Nazi persecution blend together with family conflicts across generations, is analyzed in the last part of the thesis.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou odkazu přeživších holocaustu, konkrétně jeho dopadem na osobní život vnuků a vnuček přeživších. Součástí práce je charakteristika posttraumatické stresové poruchy,psychického traumatu a mezigeneračního přenosu, který je zde jako kontroverzní téma pojednán z několika úhlů pohledu. Dále jsou v práci pomocí přehledu rozličných studií konkretizovány problémy všech tří generací, které jsou traumatem holocaustu zasaženy. V závěru práce je analyzován příběh jedné židovské rodiny, jejíž historie spojená s nacistickým pronásledováním se prolíná do rodinných konfliktů napříč generacemi.
