Development of the Concept of Contemporary Revolution in Military Affairs

Abstract:

Disertační práce je pojata jako komparativní případová studie zaměřená na podobu současné revoluce ve vojenských záležitostech ve Spojených státech amerických, Sovětském svazu/ Ruské federaci a Čínské lidové republice. Cílem je vymezit, jak tyto státy přistupují ke konceptu současné RMA a jaké prvky se snaží etablovat. Disertační práce analyzuje strategické důvody vybraných států pro implementaci současné RMA; témata, která byla akcentována v konceptuální debatě o současné RMA; a podobu, jakou současná RMA nabývá při praktické aplikaci.Obecný koncept RMA je v rámci výzkumu pojímán jako výskyt radikálních změn ve způsobu vedení války. Z hlavních závěrů vyplývá, že Jednotlivé přístupy souhrnně poukazují na význam informační dimenze a odpovídajících doktrinálních konceptů (Network Centric Warfare, System-of-Systems, RUK apod.) pro podobu současné revoluce, nebo přesněji současných revolucí. Na druhou stranu ani tito společní „jmenovatelé“ nezpůsobují, že by např. americká revoluce byla v tomto kontextu shodná s ruskou nebo čínskou. Současně je nezbytné poukázat nejen na návaznost debat/témat v rámci konkrétního přístupu, ale i mezi přístupy navzájem.

Abstract:

The dissertation thesis is conceived as a comparative case study focused on the form of the current revolution in military affairs in the United States of America, the Soviet Union / Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China. The aim is to define how these countries approach the concept of the current RMA and what elements they are trying to establish. The dissertation analyzes strategic reasons of selected states for the implementation of the current RMA; themes that have been emphasized in the conceptual debate on the current RMA; and the form that current RMA acquires in practical application. The general RMA concept is considered to be a radical change in the way war is conducted. Main conclusions show that individual approaches summarize the importance of the information dimension and the corresponding doctrinal concepts for the form of the current revolution or, more precisely, to the current revolutions (Network Centric Warfare, System of Systems etc.). On the other hand, these common "denominators" do not constitute that, for example, the American Revolution is in this context identical to Russian or Chinese. At the same time, it is necessary to point out not only the continuity of debates / themes within a particular approach, but also between approaches to each other.
