Czech Version of the Perseverative Thinking Questionnaire: Perseverative Thinking as a Transdiagnostic Process

Abstract:

Transdiagnostický přístup se zaměřuje na témata společná pro více druhů psychických poruch, přičemž perseverativní myšlení je považováno za jeden z transdiagnostických procesů. Perseverativní myšlení je definováno jako (1) opakující se, intruzivní a obtížně kontrolovatelné, (2) neproduktivní a (3) zabírající podstatnou část mentální kapacity. Dotazník perseverativního myšlení (PTQ) byl přeložen do češtiny a byla testována jak jeho faktorová struktura, tak i vztahy s metodami měřícími úroveň symptomů deprese (PHQ-9) a úzkostné poruchy (GAD-7), Škálou potřeby kognitivního uzavření (NFC) a Škálou schopnosti dosáhnout uzavření (AAC). Validizace překladu proběhla skrze elektronickou a papírovou formu dotazníkové baterie u celkem 297 respondentů. Dotazník i jeho škály vykazovaly dobrou vnitřní konzistenci (Cronchachovo α = 0.909), metoda silně korelovala s PHQ-9 a GAD-7, středně silně s AAC a slabě s NFC, což podporuje předpoklady transdiagnostického přístupu. Faktorová struktura nebyla konzistentní s třífaktorovým modelem navrženým autory dotazníku, proto byly navrženy konkrétní změny ohledně vztahů mezi položkami a nových modelů faktorové struktury dotazníku. Výsledky a praktické implikace jsou dále rozvedeny s návrhem dalšího postupu.

Abstract:

Transdiagnostic approach is focused on what various psychological disorders have in common, while perseverative thinking was established as one of the ultimate transdiagnostic processes. Perseverative thinking is defined as (1) repetitive, intrusive and hard to disengage from, (2) unproductive and (3) capturing mental capacity. The Perseverative Thinking (PTQ) was translated into Czech language and its hypothesized factor structure was tested, as well as its relationships to other methods measuring symptoms of depression (PHQ-9) and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD-7), the Need for Closure scale (NFC) a Ability to Achieve Closure scale (AAC). The validity of the translated version was examined through electronic and paper form of the questionnaire battery filled by 297 respondents. The questionnaire and its scales showed good internal consistency (Cronchach´s α = .909), the method was also strongly correlating with the PHQ-9 and the GAD-7, showed negative moderate correlation to the AAC and weak correlation to the NFC, which is offering a supporting evidence for the trandiagnostic approach. However, the factor structure was not consistent with the three-factor model proposed by the authors of the PTQ, therefore there were few adjustments to the model proposed, concerning specific changes in the relationships between items and new models of a factor structure. The results and practical implications are discussed with the suggestions for further analysis.
