Rehabilitation of a patient following total knee arthroplasty in a clinical presentation of bilateral gonarthrosis: a clinical case

Abstract:

Osteoarthritis is a set of conditions that affect joints and determine signs and symptoms, associated with a degeneration of the cartilage and structural changes of the underlying bone and articular heads. It is a pathological process that involves all the joints, but this pathology affects the articular cartilage and especially the subcondral bone. If patient has this pathology since years, it might occur to the PTG, a very effective technique and with little incidence of complications. Knee arthroplasty is the most effective orthopedic surgery for degenerative progression pathologies that affect most the adult population. In Italy is estimated that patients undergoing PTG surgery are around 20,000, and patients undergoing this surgery grow by 2-3% year by year. Physiotherapy is the best rehabilitation treatment choice for functional recovery in PTG patients. This uses different tools such as manual therapy, instrumental therapy and physical exercises. In this thesis, it has been deepened the case of G.C, a rehabilitated patient following surgery of total knee arthroplasty in a diagnosis of bilateral gonarthritis.

Abstract:

L'osteoartrosi ? un insieme di condizioni che intaccano le articolazioni e che determinano segni e sintomi, associati a una degenerazione della cartilagine e a modifiche strutturali dell'osso sottostante e dei capi articolari. ? un processo patologico che raggruppa tutte le articolazioni, ma questa patologia colpisce maggiormente la cartilagine articolare e soprattutto l'osso subcondrale. Se l'OA ? in stato avanzato si ricorre alla PTG, ad oggi una tecnica molto efficace e con scarsa incidenza di complicanze. L'artroprotesi di ginocchio ? l'intervento di chirurgia in ambito ortopedico di maggior efficacia per quello che concerne le patologie di progressione degenerativa che riguardano maggiormente la popolazione adulta. In Italia si stima che i pazienti sottoposti ad intervento di PTG siano all'incirca 20.000, e i pazienti sottoposti a questo intervento crescono di anno in anno del 2-3%. La fisioterapia ? il trattamento riabilitativo elettivo indirizzato al recupero funzionale in soggetti operati di PTG. Questa si serve di diversi strumenti quali la terapia manuale, la terapia strumentale e l'esercizio fisico. In questa tesi ? stato approfondito il caso di G.C, paziente riabilitata in seguito ad intervento di artroprotesi totale di ginocchio in un quadro di gonartrosi bilaterale.
