Indigenous identity in the novel Maíra de Darcy Ribeiro

Abstract:

This master´s thesis focuses on the novel Maíra written by a Brazilian author Darcy Ribeiro. Darcy Ribeiro is an iportant Brazilian anthropologist who has spent many years by studying Indians and fighting for their rights. The thesis focuses on the issue of identity which arises from the long colonial tradition that has been ingrained in Brazil since the 15th century when the country was discovered by the Portuguese. The topic is discussed from the post-colonial theories point of view.

Abstract:

Magisterská diplomová práce se zabývá románem Maíra brazilského autora Darcy Ribeiro. Darcy Ribeiro je významný brazilský antropolog, který dlouhá léta strávil studiem indiánů a bojoval za jejich práva. Práce se zaměřuje na problematiku identity, která vyvstává z dlouhé koloniální tradice, která je v Brazílii zakořeněná již od 15. století, kdy byla země objevena Portugalci. Na téma je nahlíženo z úhlu pohledu post-koloniálních teorií.
