Wheat grain yield in relation to the size of the root system

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá vztahem kořenového systému a výnosu zrna pšenice seté (Triticum aestivum L.). V literárním přehledu byla popsána změna klimatu a její vliv na produkci obilnin v České republice a zahraničí. Následně se práce zabývá vztahem velikosti a morfologie kořenového systému k abiotickým faktorům a výnosům biomasy obilnin. Poslední důležitým bodem literárního přehledu jsou šlechtitelská opatření na výnosové a kvalitativní parametry obilnin. V této části byl kladen zřetel zejména na šlechtění obilnin na toleranci vůči suchu. V praktické části se hodnotila velikost kořenového systému (VKS) a její vliv na výnos zrna u vybraných odrůd pšenice seté (Triticum aestivum L.). Měření probíhalo pomocí metody elektrické kapacity na dvou lokalitách a ve třech růstových fázích (sloupkování, metání a plnění zrna). Vliv kořenového systému na výnos zrna nebyl statisticky průkazný ve všech růstových fázích, avšak při plnění zrna byla stanovena pozitivní korelace mezi VKS ve fázi mléčná zralost a výnosem zrna (r = 0,458). V lokalitě Branišovice se srovnávala velikost kořenového systému s kvalitativními parametry zrna (HTZ, objemová hmotnost, pádové číslo a škrobnatost). Velikost kořenového systému ve fázi sloupkování neměla statisticky průkazný vliv na HTZ (r = - 0,78). V dalších fázích nebyla prokázána žádná statistická průkaznost, tudíž vztah mezi VKS a HTZ byl ve fázích metání a plnění zrna neutrální. Velikost kořenového systému rovněž neměla statisticky průkazný vliv na objemovou hmotnost ve fázích sloupkování (r = - 0,695) a plnění zrna (r = -0,574,). Dále nebyl prokázán statisticky významný vliv VKS na množství N-látek v zrnu, ale ve fázi plnění zrna byla hodnota korelačního koeficientu pozitivní (r = 0,450) a určitý vliv na množství dusíkatých látek mít mohla.Dále byly statisticky porovnány hodnoty získané pomocí programu WinRHIZO tj. délka, plocha a objem kořenů s hmotností sušiny kořenové biomasy, velikostí kořenového systému měřenou pomocí elektrické kapacity, výnosem zrna a kvalitativními parametry. V lokalitě Krásněves bylo zjištěno, že objem kořenů (r = 0,88) měl statisticky průkazný vliv na výnos zrna u odrůd Reform, Viriato a Ponticus.V Branišovicích se srovnávaly hodnoty morfologických parametrů kořenového systému stanovené programem WinRHIZO s kvalitativními parametry čtyř odrůd (Sacramento, Reform, Ponticus a Viriato). Ze statistiky vyplynulo, že plocha kořenů (r = - 0,90) a objem kořenů (r = - 0,85) neměly statisticky průkazný vliv na HTZ. Plocha kořenů měla statisticky pozitivní vliv na velikost pádového čísla. Statisticky průkazné hodnoty (délka kořenů, plocha kořenů a objem kořenů) měly vliv na obsah škrobu v zrnu.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the relation of root system and yield of common wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). The literature review describes climate change and its impact on cereal production in the Czech Republic and abroad. Subsequently, the work deals with the relation of the size and morphology of the root system to abiotic factors and biomass yield of cereals. The last important point of the literature review are breeding measures for yield and quality parameters of cereals. In this part, attention was paid to the breeding of cereals for drought tolerance.The practical part evaluated the size of the root system (RSS) and its effect on grain yield in selected varieties of common wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). The measurement was carried out using the electrical capacity method at two locations and in three growth phases (peeling, sweeping and grain filling). The influence of the root system on the grain yield was not statistically significant in all growth phases, but when filling the grain, a positive correlation was found between the milk yield maturity and the grain yield (r = 0.458). In the Branišovice locality, the size of the root system was compared with the qualitative parameters of the grain (TGW, density, fall number and starch content). The size of the root system in the posting phase had no statistically significant effect on TGW (r = - 0.78). In the following phases no statistical conclusiveness was proved, therefore the relationship between RSS and TGW was neutral in the stages of sowing and grain filling. Also, the size of the root system did not have a statistically significant effect on the bulk density in the phases of peeling (r = - 0.695) and grain filling (r = -0.574,). Furthermore, the values obtained using WinRHIZO program were compared statistically, ie the length, area and volume of roots with the dry matter weight of the root biomass, the size of the root system measured by electrical capacity, grain yield and qualitative parameters. In the locality Krásněves it was found that the volume of roots (r = 0.88) had a statistically significant effect on grain yield in the varieties Reform, Viriato and Ponticus.In Branišovice the values of the morphological parameters of the root system determined by WinRHIZO were compared with the qualitative parameters of four varieties (Sacramento, Reform, Ponticus and Viriato). The statistics showed that the root area (r = - 0.90) and root volume (r = - 0.85) had no statistically significant effect on TGW. The root area had a statistically positive effect on the size of the fall number. Statistically conclusive values (root length, root area and root volume) had an effect on the starch content of the grain.
