Dokumentární akreditiv (Documentary Credit, Lettre of Credit, L/C) představuje písemný závazek banky, vystavený na základě žádosti jejího klienta (příkazce, kupujícího), že poskytne plnění stanovené v akreditivu třetí osobě (pověřenému, beneficientovi, prodávajícímu), budou-li do určité doby splněny akreditivní podmínky. A financial document issued by an issuing bank at the request of a buyer (applicant) to a seller (beneficiary), which guarantees payment to the seller if the terms and conditions specified in the L/C are fulfilled.
