Validation of a working memory and visouspatial ability method

Abstract:

Studie se zabývá validizací komplexní figury jako kresebné metody zaměřené na pracovní paměť a vizuospaciální schopnosti. Tato metoda byla vytvořena jako alternativa k Rey-Osterreithově komplexní figuře (ROCF) a je součástí testové baterie pro diagnostiku grafomotorických obtíží. Autory byl pro metodu převeden hodnotící systém TKF, který byl na přelomu tisíciletí standardizován pro českou populaci. Z teoretického hlediska je pracovní paměť ukotvena pomocí Baddeleyho teorie pracovní paměti, avšak dále je ke zkoumání využita i Hypotéza vazby. K účelům testování byl využit test n-back stimulující vizuospaciální náčrtník a centrální exekutivu. Z vizuospaciálních schopností je využit konstrukt vizuální paměti, a dále vizuospaciální učení se pomocí párových asociací, při čemž oba tyto konstrukty jsou zastoupeny testem PAL (Paired Associates Learning). Oba testy jsou počítačové, pro komplexní figuru byla využita metoda „tužka-papír“. Z teoretického základu vyplývá, že výkon v ROCF a potažmo i překládané grafomotorické figuře může souviset s úrovní pracovní i vizuální paměti, a tedy vizuospaciálních schopností. V rámci bakalářské práce byla potvrzena hypotéza existence vztahu výkonu v grafomotorické metodě s výkonem v testu n-back (r_(max.,vybavení)=0,34; p<0,01). Byla také potvrzena hypotéza exsitence vztahu mezi grafomotorickou metodou a PAL (r_překreslení=0,29,p<0,01; r_vybavení=0,39,p<0,01). Potvrzena byla i korelace mezi metodami n-back a PAL (r_max=0,53, p<0,01). Byla prokázána uspokojující vnitřní konzistence grafomotorické metody v části vybavení (α = 0,84), naopak nízká reliabilita byla naměřena v části překreslení. Výsledky tohoto výzkumu podporují zjištění předešlých výzkumů, a sice že pracovní paměť a vizuospaciální schopnosti souvisí s výkonem v komplexní figuře a také spolu navzájem. Do budoucna mohou být dalším podkladem při diagnostice a terapii vývojové dysgrafie.

Abstract:

The study deals with validization of complex figure as a drawing method focused on measuring working memory and visuospatial abilities. The method has been created as an alternative to Rey-Osterreith Complex Figure. It is a part of graphomotor-difficulties-diagnostic test battery. The TKF scoring system, which has been standardized for czech population, was implemeted for the method by the authors of this study. Working memory is defined by Baddeley’s Model of Working Memory, however Binding hypothesis was also used while operacionalizing the term and hypothesis. In the test part, n-back stimulating visual-spatial sketchpad and central executive, and PAL (Paired Associated Learning) test stimulating visual memory and paired associates learning, were used as test methods. The metods were computerized. The „pencil-paper“ method was used for administrating the complex figure method. We conclude, that there is a relationship between the performance in ROCF, therefor in the complex figure method, and level of working memory and vizual memory (therefor visuospatial abilities). The hypothesis of existence of the relationship between complex figure method score and n-back score was confirmed (r_(max.,recall)=0,34,p<0,01). The second hypothesis of existing relationship between complex figure method score and PAL score was also confirmed (r_(copy part)=0,29,p<0,01; r_(recall part)=0,39,p<0,01). It was also confirmed, that there is a relationship between n-back and PAL performance ((r_max=0,53,p<0,01). The inner consistence results were satisfying for the recall part of the grafomotor-skill method (α = 0.837), but was not proved for the copy part. The results of the study support previous research of working memory and visuospatial abilities, that is that the working memory and visuospatial abilites affect preformance in the complex figure and also one another. In the future, they might help with creating a dignostic tool for Developmental Dysgraphia or as helping insight in the therapy of this particular disorder.
