An Overview of the Contemporary Cuban Literature

Abstract:

The main aim of this independent study is to get to know Cuban literature of the 20th century and 21st century. The theoretical part is focusing on the history of Cuba as well as the introduction to Cuban literature and its division. Followed by a practical part where four authors are analysed, who have lived and published their work in Cuba in the last twenty years. The authors chosen for this study are Leonard Padura and his work Adiós Hemingway, Wendy Guerra and her novel Todos se van, Juan Pedro Gutierréz and his novel El Rey de La Habana and last but not least Ena Lucía Portela and her short story El Huracán. The analysis is also focusing on the lives of these authors and their perspective on Cuba as a country.

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem této bakalářské práce je seznámit se s kubánskou literaturou 20. a 21. století. Teoretická část práce se zabývá historií Kuby a také představením kubánské literatury a poté jejího rozdělení. Následně v praktické části se analyzují čtyři spisovatele, kteří žijí a publikují na Kubě v posledních dvaceti letech. Konkrétně jsme vybrali Leonarda Paduru a jeho dílo Adiós Hemingway, Wendy Guerru a její novelu Todos se van, Juana Pedra Gutierréze s románem El rey de La Habana a jako poslední Enu Lucíi Portelu a její povídku El Huracán. Při analýze jsme se zaměřili také na životy vybraných spisovatelů a jejich pohled na Kubu.
