Soil conditions and the preservation of skeletal remains at the cemetery in Přibice (Moravia)

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je zaměřena na hodnocení zachovalosti kosterních pozůstatků u hrobů novokřtěneckého pohřebiště v Přibicích v závislosti na působení tafonomických procesů, jako jsou zvětrávání, abraze, skeletonizace, faktory fyzikální, chemické a biologické. Kosterní pozůstatky pochází z období od poloviny 16. do počátku 17. století. Objektem hodnocení studie byly hroby vyzvednuté v letech 2018 až 2021. Celý zpracovávaný kosterní soubor je tvořen 97 hroby a čítá 101 jedinců. Z tohoto počtu je 75 dospělých a 25 nedospělých, 42 žen a 21 mužů. Při posuzování byly použity tři různé metody hodnocení zachovalosti a zvětrávání: Behrensmeyer (1978), Stojanowski et al. (2002) a R. Pěnička (2013). Hodnocena byla zvětralost kostí, jejich zachovalost, včetně ucelenosti jedinců. Zjištěné výsledky zachovalosti i zvětrání kostí byly porovnávány v závislosti na stáří a pohlaví. V neposlední řadě byl v bakalářské práci hodnocen i vliv půdních podmínek (pH) na zachovalost kosterních pozůstatků.

Abstract:

This bachelor’s thesis is focused on the evaluation of the preservation of skeletal remains at the graves of the New Baptists burial ground in Přibice depending on the influence of taphonomic processes, such as weathering, abrasion, skeletonization, physical, chemical and biological factors. The skeletal remains date from middle of the 16th to the early 17th centuries. The object of the study evaluation were the graves picked up between 2018 and 2021 The entire processed skeletal set consists of 97 graves and includes 101 individuals. Of this number, there are 75 adults and 25 minors, 42 woman and 21 men. Three different methods were used to assess preservation and weathering: Behrensmeyer (1978), Stojanowski et al. (2002) and R. Pěnička (2013). The weathering of the bones, their preservation, including the integrity of the individuals, was evaluated. The observed results of bone preservation and weathering were compared depending on age and gender. Finally, the influence of soil conditions (pH) on the preservation of skeletal remains was evaluated as part of the bachelor thesis.
