Military hospital in the Fortress of Josephstadt, 1790-1840: its funtionality, operation, equipment and sanitary care.

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá vojenským špitálem v pevnosti Josefov v 1. polovině 19. století, přičemž je z velké části založena na informacích získaných z komisních protokolů z let 1816 až 1846. Zabývá se také rozborem a interpretací těchto pramenů. Hlavní oblastí zájmu práce jsou pacienti vojenského špitálu v Josefově v daném období, jejich zázemí, strava, onemocnění a s tím související velící, lékařský a strážní personál. Součástí je i výpočet průměrného počtu pacientů, průměrné úmrtnosti a posouzení kvality péče o nemocné. Práce se dotýká také obecného vývoje vojenské medicíny a reforem, které vedly ke zlepšování péče o raněné a nemocné vojáky.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis examines the military hospital within the fortress of Josefov in the first half of the nineteenth century, largely relying on information obtained from commission protocols spanning from 1818 to 1846. It also involves analysis and interpretation of these sources. The main focus of the thesis is on the patients of the military hospital in Josefov during the period, including their conditions, diet, illnesses, as well as the related commanding, medical, and guard staff. Additionally, it calculates the average number of patients, mortality rate, and assesses the quality of care for the sick. This thesis also addresses the general development of military medicine and the reforms that contributed to improvements in the care of wounded and sick soldiers.
