Studies on the reactivity of 3,3,4,4-tetramethylsuccinimide with covalent halides

Abstract:

Předkládaná dizertační práce se zabývá studiem reakcí 3,3,4,4-tetramethylsukcinimidu (TH) s kovalentními halogenidy. V literární části jsou shrnuty informace o přípravě, vlastnostech a známých reakcích 3,3,4,4-tetramethylsukcinimidu a také strukturně podobných organických imidů. Na základě publikovaných výsledků byly vybrány vhodné reakční podmínky pro nejsnazší průběh prováděných reakcí. Cílem práce bylo připravit nové sloučeniny obsahující ve struktuře 3,3,4,4-tetramethylsukcinimidovou skupinu (T) a objasnit ne vždy zcela jasný mechanismus těchto reakcí. K identifikaci a charakterizaci produktů a ke sledování průběhů reakcí byly k dispozici fyzikálně chemické metody (NMR, infračervená a Ramanova spektroskopie, hmotnostní spektrometrie). Krystalové a molekulové struktury připravených sloučenin byly stanoveny RTG strukturní analýzou. První skupinu reagentů představovaly fenylderiváty chloridu fosforitého (PhPCl2, Ph2PCl) a fosforečného (PhPCl4, Ph2PCl3, Ph3PCl2). Při reakcích PhPCl2 a Ph2PCl s TH ve vhodných molárních poměrech došlo k substituci všech atomů chloru v chloridech sukcinimidovou skupinou a byly izolovány a charakterizovány nové sloučeniny – PhPT2 a Ph2PT. V průběhu reakcí PhPCl4, Ph2PCl3 a Ph3PCl2 s TH došlo vždy k tvorbě fosforylové skupiny, a proto se v těchto případech nepodařilo substituovat všechny atomy chloru. Bylo zjištěno, že kyslík fosforylových skupin pochází z TH a vedlejším produktem těchto reakcí je dosud nepublikovaná sloučenina. Na základě dosažených výsledků byl navržen reakční mechanismus reakcí fenylderivátů chloridu fosforečného s TH. Druhou skupinu reaktantů tvořily chloridy prvků 13. skupiny periodického systému (BCl3, AlCl3, GaCl3). Reakcemi TH s těmito chloridy ve vhodným molárních poměrech byly připraveny a izolovány adukty TH s příslušným chloridem. Všechny adukty jsou tvořeny koordinační vazbou kyslík–kov. Reakcí sodné soli TH s AlCl3 v molárním poměru 3 : 1 byla připravena sloučenina se strukturou klastru s velmi neobvyklým planárním Al3O jádrem. Získané závěry a podrobné charakterizace produktů přispěly k objasnění dosud ne zcela jasných mechanismů reakcí imidů s kovalentními halogenidy. Syntéza dvou sad podobných sloučenin umožnila srovnání spektrálních a strukturních charakteristik jednotlivých látek.

Abstract:

Presented doctoral thesis deals with the study of the reactions of 3,3,4,4-tetramethylsuccinimide (TH) with covalent halides. In the literary section there is the information about the preparation, properties and known reactions of 3,3,4,4- tetramethylsuccinimide and structurally similar organic imides. Based on the published results suitable reaction conditions have been selected for the easiest course of reactions. The aim of this work was to prepare new compounds containing 3,3,4,4-tetramethylsuccinimidyl group (T) in their structures and explain not always clear mechanism for these reactions. The identification and characterization of products and the observation of courses of reactions were conducted by physicochemical methods (NMR, infrared and Raman spectroscopy, mass spectrometry). Crystal and molecular structures of prepared compounds were determined by X-ray structural analysis. The first group of reagents was represented by phenyl derivatives of phosphorus chloride (PhPCl2, Ph2PCl, PhPCl4, Ph2PCl3, Ph3PCl2). During the reactions of PhPCl2 and Ph2PCl with TH in the appropriate molar ratio the substitution of all chlorine atoms in chlorides by succinimidyl group occurred. New compounds – PhPT2 and Ph2PT were isolated and characterized. In the reactions of PhPCl4, Ph2PCl3 and Ph3PCl2 with TH the phosphoryl group has been always created and therefore in these cases all chlorine atoms could not be substituted. It was found that the oxygen in phosphoryl group originates from TH. The by-product of these reactions is still unpublished compound. Based on the results the reaction mechanism of reactions between phenyl derivatives of phosphorus (V) chloride and TH was proposed. Chlorides of elements in 13th group of periodic system (BCl3, AlCl3, GaCl3) were attended in the second group of reactants. By the reactions of TH and these chlorides in the appropriate molar ratio, adducts TH with the chloride were prepared and isolated. All these adducts are formed by coordination metal-oxygen bond. By the reaction of sodium salt of TH with AlCl3 in the molar ratio 3 : 1 the compound with the cluster structure and a very unusual Al3O planar core was prepared. Acquired conclusions and detailed characterization of the products contributed to clarify not yet entirely clear reaction mechanisms of reactions of imides with covalent halides. Synthesis of two sets of similar compounds allowed the comparison of spectral and structural characteristics of individual substances.
