Negative normative influence in the context of czech majority relationship with Roma minority

Abstract:

V předložené práci jsme se zabývali vlivem manipulace ingroup deskriptivních norem operacionalizovaných jako informace o míře meziskupinového kontaktu mezi většinovou společností (Neromy) a Romy na postoje (předsudky) Neromů vůči Romům měřené pocitovým teploměrem. Míra kontaktu mezi skupinami byla respondentům online dotazníku prezentována ve vytvořeném fiktivním novinovém článku (experimentální manipulaci) lišícím se informací o míře kontaktu podle jedné ze tří podmínek: kontakt se výrazně snižuje (N = 112), kontakt se nemění (N = 90), a kontakt se mírně zvyšuje (N = 96). V rámci normativní manipulace byl užit efekt depersonalizovaného rozšířeného kontaktu a dynamických norem. Bylo ověřováno, zda informace o výrazně se snižujícím kontaktu mezi Neromy a Romy zvyšují předsudky Neromů vůči Romům více než informace o neměnící se frekvenci meziskupinového kontaktu. Dále jsme ověřovali, zda informace o mírně se zvyšujícím kontaktu mezi Neromy a Romy snižují předsudky Neromů vůči Romům více než informace o neměnící se frekvenci meziskupinového kontaktu. Jednofaktoriální analýzou rozptylu nebyl prokázán signifikantní vztah ani pro jednu ze dvou dvojic srovnávaných podmínek (p = 0,131; p > 0,05).

Abstract:

In the presented work, we dealt with the influence of manipulation of ingroup descriptive norms operationalized as information on the degree of intergroup contact between the majority society (non-Roma) and the Roma on the attitudes (prejudices) of non-Roma towards the Roma measured by a feeling thermometer. The level of contact between the groups was presented to the respondents of the online questionnaire in a created fictitious newspaper article (experimental manipulation) with different information about the level of contact according to one of three conditions: contact significantly decreases (N = 112), contact does not change (N = 90), and contact increases slightly (N = 96). As part of normative manipulation, the effect of depersonalized extended contact and dynamic norms was used. It was verified whether information about significantly decreasing contact between non-Roma and the Roma increases prejudices of non-Roma towards the Roma more than information about an unchanged frequency of intergroup contact. Furthermore, we verified whether information about a slightly increasing contact between non-Roma and the Roma reduces non-Roma prejudice against the Roma more than information about an unchanged frequency of intergroup contact. A one-factor analysis of variance did not show a significant relationship for either of the two pairs of compared conditions (p = 0.131; p > 0.05).
