The experience with substitute family care from biological children of foster/adoptive parents point of view

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je zaměřena na zkušenost biologických dětí pěstounů či osvojitelů s náhradní rodinnou péčí.V teoretické části je vymezena náhradní rodinná péče a její formy se zřetelem k mezinárodním odlišnostem. Další kapitola je zaměřená na psychologická specifika pěstounských/adoptivních rodin. Ústřední kapitola je věnována dosavadním studiím (zejména zahraničním) zaměřeným na zkušenost biologických dětí pěstounů (osvojitelů) s náhradní rodinnou péčí. V rámci výzkumu byly realizovány rozhovory s deseti biologickými dětmi pěstounů/osvojitelů (ve věku 12-19) let. Ty byly analyzovány pomocí metody interpretativní fenomenologické analýzy. Bylo identifikováno jedenáct nadřazených témat a řada dílčích témat. Za významná zjištění lze považovat následující: Neobvyklé či obtížné chování přijatých dětí někteří participanti interpretovali jako důsledek jejich nepříznivých raných zkušeností přijatých dětí, což jim pomáhalo těmto projevům porozumět. Dělení se o pozornost a čas rodičů s přijatými dětmi nebylo náročné pro ty participanty, kteří vnímali, že přijaté děti potřebují více pozornosti vzhledem k jejich potížím a potřebě adaptace v novém domově a pro ty děti, kterým rodiče rozdělovali pozornost vyrovnaně. Některé biologické děti pěstounů/osvojitelů také měly na adaptaci a pokrocích přijatých dětí významný podíl. Vycházení s přijatým dítětem usnadňoval věkový odstup, v některých případech si naopak biologické děti pěstounů/osvojitelů více rozuměly s podobně starým dítětem. Často zmiňované hodnoty v rodinách byly pozitivní vztahy, vstřícná komunikace, humor, společný čas. Někteří participanti uvedli, že díky zkušenosti s náhradní rodinnou péčí jsou samostatnější, dovedou se postarat o mladší děti a o domácnost a že jejich budoucí rodina by se měla podobat té současné v tom, že by také chtěli přijmout dítě a současně mít i biologické. Tato a další zjištění jsou diskutována se zahraničními výzkumy. Jsou uvedeny limity výzkumu. Dále jsou navrženy možnosti využití výsledků při práci s pěstounskými či adoptivními rodinami a možnosti i využití pro další výzkumy.

Abstract:

Diploma thesis focuses on experience of biological children of foster/adoptive parents with substitute family care. In the theoretical part substitute family care and its types are defined with aspects of international differences first. Next chapter is focused on psychological specifics of foster/adoptive families. Key chapter deals with existing (mainly foreign) researches concerning on experience of biological children of foster/adoptive parents with substitute family care.In frame of study interviews with ten biological children of foster/adoptive parents (age 12-19) were realised.They were analysed with interpretative phenomenological analysis. Eleven superordinate themes and amount of partial themes were identified. Some of important findings are: Some participants interpreted strange or troublesome behavior of foster/adoptive children as a consequence of negative early experience of foster/adoptive children, which helped participants to understand them. Sharing parental attention and time with foster/adoptive children was not so demanding for participants, who perceived that foster/adoptive children need more attention because of specific difficulties and a necessity of adaptation in a new home and for participants, whose parents divide their attention in balanced way. Some biological children of foster/adoptive parents also had participation on adaptation and improvements of foster/adoptive children. Good relations with foster/adoptive children was facilitated with age distance, but on the other hand, in some cases biological children of foster/adoptive parents had better relations with foster/adoptive child because of similar age (due to similar interests). Often mentioned values in families were positive relationships, helpful communication, humour, shareable time. Some of participants told, that due to experience with substitute family care are more independent and are able to take care of younger children and household and they would like once to have similar family as their is, because they also would like to have adoptive/foster children and also biological children. These and other findings are discussed with foreign studies. Limits of study are mentioned. Also possibilities of application of findings in work with foster/adoptive families or subsequent researches are suggested.
