Demand forecasting model for price non-elastic goods and its application

Abstract:

Na základě popsaných teoretických metod je sestaven robustní model, který je schopen predikovat poptávku po cenově neelastických statcích. Těmi může být například benzín na čerpacích stanicích, cigarety v trafikách, peníze na pobočkách bank nebo peníze v bankomatech. Model je sestaven na reálném datovém souboru sedmi set bankomatů, u nichž odhaduje budoucí poptávku po penězích. Na základě predikcí kalibrujeme model, pro co nejnižší distribuční a skladovací náklady. Porovnáním sestaveného modelu s používaným řešením zjišťujeme, že užívání nového modelu by vedlo k přibližně pěti procentní úspoře sledovaných nákladů.

Abstract:

A robust model for forecasting demand for price non-elastic goods is derived in the thesis. The goods might be fuel on gas stations, cigarettes in tobacco shops, money in bank branches or money in ATMs. The model is based on a real-data sample of seven hundred ATMs for which it estimates future money demand. Based on the predictions we calibrate the model to achieve lower distribution and storage costs. By the comparison of assembled model and currently used solution, we determine that the usage of new model would lead to approximately five percent cost reduction.
