Non-toxic: motivation for a lifestyle based on the elimination of toxicity

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá tématem cílené snahy o eliminaci expozic toxických látek. V teoretické části reflektuje dosavadní sociologickou literaturu, která klasifikuje snahu o eliminaci toxicity jako tzv. obrácenou karanténu a preventivní spotřebu. Ústředním tématem práce jsou motivace vedoucí ke snaze o eliminaci expozic toxických látek. Práce blíže seznamuje s českou skupinou Svět non toxic, která funguje jako online komunita spojující jedince zabývající se tímto tématem. Výzkumný vzorek byl sestaven z členů zmiňované skupiny. Provedený kvalitativní výzkum poskytuje detailní vhled do motivací těchto jednotlivců a přibližuje, jak vnímají toxicitu a snahu o její eliminaci. Z výzkumu vychází, že motivace lze rozdělit do dvou základních kategorií, na zdravotní a environmentální. Zdravotní motivace hrají větší roli, environmentální jsou spíše upozaděny. Avšak někteří respondenti byli k eliminaci toxicity motivováni právě skrze své přesvědčení, že je tento životní způsob environmentálně příznivý.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the topic of targeted effort to eliminate exposure of toxic substances. The theoretical part reflects the existing sociological literature, which classifies the effort to eliminate toxicity as so-called inverted quarantine and precautionary consumption. The central theme of the work is motivation leading to an effort to eliminate exposure of toxic substances. The work introduces the Czech group Svet non toxic, which functions as an online community, uniting individuals dealing with this topic. The research sample was composed of members from this group. The qualitative research provides a detailed insight into the motivations of these individuals and shows how they perceive toxicity and efforts to eliminate it. The research shows that motivation can be divided into two basic categories, health and the en-vironment, where health motivation occurs more commonly that the environmental one.
