Adult attachment, forgiveness and conflict strategies in close relationships

Abstract:

Tématem práce jsou souvislosti mezi citovou vazbou v dospělosti, řešením konfliktů v blízkých vztazích a tendencí odpouštět. Teoretickým východiskem je dvoudimenzionální model citové vazby Bartholomewové (1991), styly řešení konfliktů definované Zacchillim, Hendrickem a Hendrickovou (2009) a koncept odpuštění podle Berryho (2001) a Browna (2003). Empirickou část práce tvoří kvantitativní výzkumný projekt. Hypotézy byly ověřovány jednak dotazníkovými metodami: ECR-R, RPCS, TTF, ATF a TNTF (N=203), jednak přímým pozorováním partnerů a jeho kódováním pomocí SPAFF (N=40). Vzorky tvoří lidé ve věku od 21 do 35 let. Analýza dat byla prováděna na pětiprocentní hladině významnosti pomocí korelací. Bylo zjištěno, že čím méně jsou partneři, co se týče citové vazby, vyhýbaví a úzkostní, tím více uplatňují při řešení konfliktů spolupráci a hledání vzájemné shody. Výsledky ukazují tendenci, že vyšší míra úzkostnosti souvisí spíše s vyhýbavým a submisivním stylem řešení konfliktů a vyšší míra vyhýbavosti souvisí s dominantním a reaktivním stylem řešení konfliktů. Celkový vztah mezi řešením konfliktů a tendencí odpouštět se jeví jako poměrně slabý. Výsledky dále naznačují souvislost mezi mírou úzkostnosti a tendencí odpouštět.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is relations between adult attachment, conflict styles in romantic relationships and tendency to forgive. The theoretical part stands on two-dimensional model of attachment by Bartholomew (1991), conflict resolution styles by Zacchilli, Hendrick and Hendrick (2009) and tendency to forgive by Berry (2001) and Brown (2003). The empirical part of the thesis is built on quantitative research. The hypothesis were proved both by self-report method: ECR-R, RPCS, TTF, ATF and TNTF (N=203) and by observations of spouses using SPAFF coding. The sample consists of persons 21-35 years old. The data analysis was executed by correlations at 5% level of significance. It was discovered the less anxious and avoidant spouses were, the more they used cooperation and seek for mutual agreement during conflict solving. The results show that the higher level of anxiety is related to avoidant and submissive conflict style and the higher level of avoidance is related to dominant and reactive conflict style. The relationship between conflict styles and tendency to forgive seems to be quite weak. The results further suggest the relationship between the level of anxiety and tendency to forgive.
