V oblasti zdaňování byla dlouhodobě pozornost zaměřena na zdaňování důchodů. Daňová teorie i praxe se celosvětově začala orientovat na zdaňování spotřeby. Předpokládá se, že výběr daní spojený se spotřebou obyvatel je efektivnější než výběr daní prostřednictvím zdanění důchodů. Historically in the area of tax regimes an increased attention was focused on income tax. However, recent trends in theory and day-to-day practice suggest a worlwide shift toward taxation of consumption.
